Afaik DICE told EA that 1.3 is too buggy to be released and EA told them to release it so Armored Fury could be released on the planned day.

So EA are the ones to blame, of course DICE too as they programmed the patch but at least they admited it isn't finished yet.

true, and also the BF2 testers said that BF2 wasnt finished yet and wanted to get the game finished but EA wanted it released so they pushed it out the door unfinished, many people blame the testers for all the bugs but the testers KNEW about all the bugs and EA new aswell, but of course....missing a release would be bad bussiness

        Yeah im ****ed.
ive been fine with bf2 mostly but the 1.3 came out and i cant play longer then 15 minutes before i get a connection problem then if i try to joing again I get CTD.

I cant play bf2 until the next patch comes out.
Its is way to unplayable for me.

Not sure how many have actually tried to do this, but uninstall and reinstall clean after a defrag.

Has virtually eliminated all my CTD's. (virtually) If you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend it. It doesn't take that long. And use the full 1.3 patch not the incremental.

But how does that fix the servers crashing and dumping everyone from the game?

Generally this is the "EA way". I worked for them in the QA capacity about 5 years ago. Within the last few weeks on `the product`, there were still around 500+ bugs logged in the database. Around 400+ of those got waived to meet retail release date. These dates (which most people don't understand are booked months in advance) cost a huge amount to set up due to pre time for advertising, press events, sales space in stores etc, and missing them can quite literally cost thousands and thousands.

But this is the important part; These decisions (i.e. leaving in massive problems) are NEVER the fault of the testers/Quality Assurance department. If you see a bug in the game, odds are extremely high its well known, already logged, and was waived by someone higher up whether the person who found it agrees to do so or not. So, don't blame the testers. They WANT to give you a quality game. It's their whole purpose. Blame the people who override them.
Anyway, thats how it works. I just hate to see this mythical idea that its the testers fault all the time keep getting brought up. Money vs. what they say, EA will take the money every time.

That's what I'm trying to say. The publishers are the ones that force out the games... that is where the BUSINESS aspect of gamemaking (Publishers) overides the creative, quality aspect of it (Programming). That's another reason why any studio merger with EA usually signals it's death. That's why I was pretty happy to see Lionhead - in some ways almost like an heir to Bullfrog (Same head - Peter Molyneux; refused to work under EA with Bullfrog once they were taken over) - get taken over by Microsoft.

You misunderstood me! In no way i say their QA Department sucks - they can't be this incompetent to overlook all the bugs  !

I blame the "money greedy ****-bags" in their Management. If these fools would plan in 1-2 month more to fix the bugs and make the game / patch bulletproof they wouldn't **** off so many people and win on the medium to long term by building up a reputation for doing solid work.

Personally i would prefer this way . And i don't start to talk about sending all the original developers (= DICE Sweden) - who made the game so they know their code and probably would do better work than their Canadian department - to start with BF2142 instead of telling them to fix the game and make some GOOD patches and giving BF2142 development to the Canadian crew

Wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, I'm just trying to get the general point across in a vague hope more people start to understand how it works.

I did that, and my overall performance was about the same as it was before the patch. I still get a CTD when I join SF servers, after that initial CTD, I reboot and I can join a server afterwards.

I haven't tried SF yet, so that may very well be.

I am not saying it is perfect by any means, I still get odd CTD, but not the way it was when I first applied the incremental patch to my system. That was unbearable. But when I completely wiped it out, cleaned registry etc., and fresh installed at least I can play for a few hours without CTD. But I haven't put SF back on yet..... eek

Well i can play some days with no problems at all, no server crashes or returns to desktop. None of theses happened before 1.3. I think its kinda bad that they didnt retract 1.3, but then when your trying to bleed every penny from the comunity with addons whos cares.......
Whish they would fix the scope lag you get some times and also the odd rocket mis on jeeps which gets you run over...... BAD EA !!!!!!! EA is a big company driven by GREED !!!!

In the physical world if a company uses an inferior product they will have to keep giving it maintainence, which becomes costly over time, but cheap initially. However, using a high quality product to begin with which is more expensive initially, but requires less maintainance, and in the long run is cheaper than the lower quality product.

Just something to bear in mind.

                              Mostly true...

Except that EA is responcible for deadlines and release dates. They are netorious in the industry for not bending their dates simply because the product isn't ready. The fact that they allowed AF to be delayed was rather amazing... and it seems to have paid off since that booster is the only add on product for BF2 that hasn't required a patch in order to function.

Or just give a damn about the game, and invite som programmers from the street to make you a new patch for a couple of beers, cause that exactly what it looks like they did...
