    F18

    F35

F18 looks a little more slimmed down.

well it goes to show that the collison mesh has no effect on missiles hitting the planes.....

Haha, that collision mesh is classic. What a joke.

Oh and about the MiG, I'm pretty sure it has less bomb spread than the F-18/J-10.

I don't know if someone already requested this, but the thing I have the most trouble with is losing someone who's on my tail. That'd probably go in the dogfighting section, but any help would be much appreciated!

About why F18 is a better missile evader than the MiG?

              MiG

              Hornet

Dont look at the SIZE of the mesh, but focus on the lower part of it, since thats where the missiles are going to hit. Jets are making turns, and the missiles are going to hit the lower part of the tail. As you can see, F18 lower part is fracking small! Most of the missiles will not hit dead on anyway.

davelisowski, youre one classic case of dumbassnes.

You're flaming me, yet providing the exact information I asked about?
Wasnt that the point? Read my post one more god damn time to understand why the information you request is better to read in bul, on paper, from different pilots, rather than a long, bandwith wasting personal approach from one pilot that is too personal to be objective.

I'm sorry if an overview of the vehicles you're going to use and discuss throughout the tutorial sounds like a bad idea.
I never said the IDEA is bad. The idea is fracking awesome! However, utilizing their strenghts and weaknesses in dogfights is A) Everyones big secret, B) Too personal, it works for some and doesnt for others. So in the end a video is insufficient to amass everything from everyone into a tutorial. A tutorial metallica is making shouldnt make you into a Top Gun, it should be a quickstart to the way of becoming one. The learning process is up to you.

If you were writing a tutorial on the Assault class, you would obviously discuss the different weapons in the kit, and the unlocks, and strategy.
Uhm, an assault class indeed, but youre talking about all classes. All jets. Theres so much information that he should make a tutorial for every jet. And you cant make a video tutorial of assualt class, because again, everyone is using it differently. What you need is hardcoded, straight facts, and those are available on forums. Ive posted a list on jets characteristics. Its up somewhere, dig it up. Read it, understand it, its exactly what youre looking for.

You turned it personal by blatantly saying how the information I requested is already on the forums. I said so is the other information requested.
First, you misunderstood my attitude. I wasnt saying that with any arrogance. I was just pointing out that the information you want from a tutorial is available in bulk, on the forums, popsted by different people giving you much more than a tutorial would. I was actually trying to HELP you, would you believe that?! Holy crap man, someone wanted to help you and you just blatantly jumped at his throat.

Which leads me to the second point- you being a moron.

                  Not connected to each other.

The picture is one of those "anomalies" in BF2. I always screencap when I can. I have more than 1000 screenshots on BF2. I thought this one was very good and I dont think anyone has ever seen this before. 70mm Hydra case and Maverick case come to my mind. Its when you get a kill message with the WEAPON used, and not the vehicle used. I remember I shot down a Cobra, with F35B, and this message was displayed 3 seconds later.

As for the message, its simple really. Thats exactly what it means.

well i see theres a kinda of point at the bottom of the f18, thats where the missiles tend to miss. but when you get your missiles to hit, they go bang straight into the rear of the engine. so im still of the opinion that its able to manouver harder in a certain direction than all the other planes, note i said harder, not faster.

Lets see if we can get back on topic here. For your tutorial, maybe you can show how to get the best out of your "practice" time. I am still a major noob who is just happy to stay airborn for more than 5 minutes. What manuvers should I be practicing to help me get better at your basic moves.

Show us which are the best/safest routes in the most common maps and what the most common mistakes are for a novice flyer. Like what are the common "choke-points", and my personal favorite....how do you get back on the map when you have flown out of the picture and you have 10 seconds out of the no-fly zone and back to the fight.

                      Anyways, thanks for asking.

Ive noticed that it tends to rely on the angle of attack of the missile. If it is following the jet smoothly, it will hit right dead on at the rear of the jet. In a more steeper angle, the missile tracking the rear at an angle will miss. F18 indeed does have a smaller radius, however, its almost the same as MiGs, and missiles dont have that much of a problem hitting the MiG.

Ive also took a little time to illustrate how this works, the way I see it.

                        F18

                        MiG

                        F35B

                        J10

And my own, imrpved version of F18 and J10

                        The DICEfighter 2000

The F35B turn radius is big enough for the missile to hit it anywhere at its back. F18, in its sharp turns can force the missile to chase its rear tip, same with MiG. However, F18s rear profile is small enough for the missile to slip by without hitting it. This is speculation from my side, and trying to get some sense into this. Not 100% truth, I wish I was a DICE employee, but I think even they dont know WHY and HOW missiles hit THAT part of THAT plane BETTER.

Hey metallica if you make a vid I request that you show a complete map not just clips of you looking good. And not your old 1.0 pre-AA footage either.

well i use good attack angles, if close i will lead it. even then if they do their simple move all missles will dodge.
so i guess if the missile is tracking that lower part and not the engine, it could be whats causing them to miss. but the missiles really do seem to be tracking the engine, i mean you dont see them attacking the wings or anything, so there must be a target programmed into the game somewhere.

anyhow the f18 has been ****ing me off for ages, so ive been nailing the buggers constantly with unlocked missiles and cannons, no chance of pulling that **** if i kill them instantly.
