Its arrogant because people who pilot like this somehow feel they are more deserving than others to be in the chopper. You are no more deserving than any other noob, and you are arrogant for thinking you are.
I'll agree to that I'm arrogant about thinking I'm better than some people. But it's confounded not by solely by ego but by time and experience. Obviously i'm going to be better at the game than someone who's fresh to the experience. This isn't about me feeling I deserve the helicopter any more than anyone else. This is about

Ranked servers are public, as are all the vehicles.
I beg to differ, I am within my rights to desire an enjoyable game of BF2. If that fact is ruined by a person unable to gun for me then I'm not going to give them the chance to do it. Sure they paid for the same game but that doesn't confound any real "rights" associated with playing style. Infact that argument is so generalize it applies to almost any aspect of the game and when it comes down to it that makes for some pretty rediculous logic.

It is also ignorant because you assume rank has any bearing on skill in the chopper, this is plain foolish. No one is perfect with any weapon, so of course there will be misses, there is no reason to dismiss a perfectly good gunner because he/she is not 100% accurate. Also the argument of practicing on single player arises. This argument is invalid considering it takes two humans to effectively be a gunner in a heli, and the bot opponents will not offer any lesson in taking out human targets, .... etc
Of course there is real consequence. I wouldn't play the game if i wasn't getting some sort of enjoyment out of it. That can easily be affected by numerous deaths from a gunner that didn't see an AA site or AT infantry etc. Also there is considerable difference between poor players and perfection. I certianly never said it was a requirement that someone never miss a target. I also stated that I base my selectivity more on the persons performance in the current round. i.e I'll normally let someone gun for one death - if at which time they are horrible i'll probably drop them off at a flag and be rid of them. As for single player I agree completely, I'm just not going to be tutor to every new player that I come across.

Since this is not real life, there should be no issue in sharing a game-component with other players, if you are unwilling, or incapable of offering helpful advice to make both of your experiences more enjoyavble, then again, the problem is with you, and not the noob who wants a chance to play in the heli. People who deny others the opportunity to fly, or gun tend to be the point whores, who take the game way too seriously, and need to lighten up and realize its a game, and other people have the right to do everything as well. If it is too difficult for you to share, then i truly pity you, because it really displays lack of basic human social skills, and makes the game unpleasant for others.
I'm not going to bother with the first portion because it's just opinion and I can't really rebute it. As far as this accusation of lacking basic human social skills that just made me laugh. Talk about taking it to extremes, I'll liken it to me describing you as quick to judge and compulsively obstinate or some other crap.

I'm definately not a point whore. I'm not going to lie though, a K/D ratio will make or break my gaming experience. If I think i've done poorly it just annoys me. In that regard if I do poorly because of reliance of others I suppose it is a personal flaw to be annoyed. I do however think it's justified. and uh, I dont think i'm an inhuman ingrate or whatever you insinuated by that last bit there haha.

Overall I think there is a huge amount of exaggeration in your post but regardless of that you have some very valid points. I'll yeild to your judgement but I think some of it is unfair.

I don't agree with your logic.

So you're better off flying with no gunner at all, huh?

Even if I have a complete sack of potatoes sitting in the gunner's seat, the worst they can do is amuse themselves with the chain gun. I'm no worse off with a lousy gunner than flying the slick by myself.

I must have missed the part where the attack choppers are personal property of certain players. I played a round of Operation Harvest last night, and someone else beat me to the Cobra and took off without letting me hop at least into the gunner's seat. I asked him whether he thought he'd score better without a gunner, and his verbatim answer was, "******, look at my score, I've been flying alone all round."

People who fly off in an attack chopper without gunner **** me off.

        Re: Am I An *******?

pffft, and here's a generalized post to all you people confounding this one point of

"ur a noob, rank has nothing to do with skill. some people just dont play as much as u."

Ignoring this "noob" crap which just makes you look like an idiot for saying it - To say that rank has *nothing* to do with skill is just short sighted. It most certainly does. There's no way you can be an expert to the games quirks within 10 hours of playing.

Also I regret wording my first post so poorly. I dont normally just refuse a player right off the bat it's normally after flying with them and realizing they have a tendancy to look as far away from the targets I spot as possible.

I suppose the real crux is not picking up players I dont consider to be very decent, not that I'm evaluating everyone as a gunner. Besides, I can't normally take off without someone getting in to gun. So I think it's fair that I should be able to pick my gunner if i can't at least take off with no one crying for a pick up.

[edit] and to the poster above - yea I'd say if the person is really bad I'm better off solo piloting and just doing my own TV shots. Also I dont go out of the way to solo fly, which I realize people seem to be assuming.

          Re: Am I An *******?

Seriously, if more people would just learn that mounted ground weapons can take down choppers, we would not have any uber l33t pilots because they would tire of being shot down by mounted guns.

It takes less than 5 seconds to take a chopper with full health down in a MEC DPV and the gun won't overheat UNTIL you have just killed the chopper. Practice a bit, I promise you will begin to enjoy taunting them from hidden spots over and over again.

I am on a personal crusade to make chopper pilots cry like liltte girls. I want more to join me in this pursuit. We can retake the skies from the ground... hehe.

I think since i do that so much myself i'm a bit more resistant than most pilots to those tactics. Also i'm the type of lamer that will bail at the last second rather than die, I keep a very close eye on the damage meter if i'm being shot. As a result i'm not often killed as a result of mounted MGs, moreso the REALLY rapid fire of jets that are in bombing mode and dont make a tone lock as they rip your heli apart in a fraction of a second.

Also it's people like you that really make a good gunner count. Because a TV shot can take out the problem within seconds of it starting and you can get repairs without a problem.

Oh well, this is a very divided arguement. Obviously I'm going to get a lot of hate which is kindof ironic considering the "it's just a game" responses.

I just know my weaknesses. I can't gun better than mediocre. I can fly ok, but flying does not do much but get you from point A to point B. I do think everyone deserves a chance to gun and no one should fly alone, but then again my opinion might be different if I had any skill in the air. One of my clan mates can TV guided solo so well he shoots jets down non-stop with it. It's disgusting but effective and I envy him for his skill because I lack it. On the ground, in a tank, APC or buggy I am dangerous. I do well on foot and better in a vehicle. I stick with what I am good at and to that end, I guess I am no different on some levels than you for your flying ethics.

I am always glad to have a passenger though. The more I have with me, the faster we take all the flags.
