Asking to get 2142 free as a mod. WTF?

That's one of the dumbest thing I've heard. People expect to get 2142 as a free mod just because it's based on the same engine? Well hell, I guess you expect to get these games below for free too since they're all based on the same quake 3 engine as well.

- Return to Castle Wolfenstein
- Soldiers of Fortune
- Call of Duty
- Heavy Metal
- The World Is Not Enough.
- Star Trek Voyager

Just because it's 'based on the same engine' doesn't label everythingelse as a "mod". It is idiocy to expect to get what's obviously a tremendous amount of work for free just because it runs on a similiar platform.

USI, PRMM, DCON, all have a tremendous amount of work, and are free.

BF2 was hardly a full game when it was released. Only a few maps, and the AI was coded only for the 16 player versions. Then we got one map in 1.03 and then had to pay £20 for an extremely buggy expansion. Now there are two extremely small booster packs which you need to pay more than a fiver each for. DICE should just give us another game, or part of another game, for free as a mod. It's only right.

In no way do I think 2142 deserves to be free, but your Quake 3 example is flawed horribly.

You see, all those games you listed are actually different from each other, unlike BF2 and BF2142.

I don't think anyone actually believes EA would give out 2142 , I think it's more of a "We've been screwed, can we at least get a reach around" feeling. Of course EA isn't going to be giving anything away, they're here to make money.

Ya we've been screwed, and they'll be screwed again (if you're willing to buy EA's crap again). EA screws people, that's what they do. You won't get anything from them, so I wouldn't even ask.

That's like when you were younger and asking your mom/dad something when you already know what they'll say. Might as well erase the thought from your brain completely.

But what about 2142 is different from what i've seen it just looks like new skins. Everything else looks 90% the same from player and vehicle animations to the types of weapons.

"A lot of new stuff" is a matter of opinion. I see little difference aside from minor new gameplay elements, none of which jump out at me and think "woah, what a fundamental change from BF2". It looks the same, plays the same.

The games zkpkiller listed based on the Quake 3 engine were seriously different from Quake III, and the code was heavily modified. None of them reminded me in any way of Quake III and if I hadn't of known prior to playing them, I would have thought they were derived from a proprietary engine. And that made them worth paying for. If they were just the core Quake III game with new skins, like 2142 is going to be, then I would have considered them to be a ripoff.

What I think EA should do is offer 2142 half price upon receipt of a valid BF2 serial key. Although this isnt going to happen and beside I'm not even going to get 2142 as I find even paying for booster packs to be a slap in the face given the poor performance and patching issues of Vanilla BF2.

I know 2142 is probably going to do alright, but I'd like to think sales of it will be seriously down from BF2.

K, so it's got titan mode and mechs.

The player models look the exact same, the support has the backpack and everything, it's sad. One thing BF2142 has going for it is cutting the classes down to 4, there are too many in BF2, infantry is worthless. Other than that, uhhh, I'll stick with my Quake Wars.

...They charged for expansions for Unreal (countless ones in the series) and Quake 3 (Team Arean comes to mind, don't remember if Rocket Arena was free or not).
