Re: BF2 STATS are killing the game and the boards?

I've been saying for a long time that this game needs some sort of demerit system. I don't know how it would be implemented without a clear change in the coding of the game. But as commander, if I see a group of enemies moving on one of our bases, and I see a squad leader at that base and I click "Defend this position", then that SL should get punished if he leaves the area while an enemy is still in the radius. Same thing if a squad leader gives an order to squad members. If SL says "attack this position" and the members don't, they should get demerits. Too many demerits, will give negative points.

If you teamkill you lose 4 points off your global score.

These posts are pointless because selfless braggarts will always spam your thread about how great their kd ratio is and w/l ratio is and how they're better at life than you are and you just need to suck it up and get better.

I for one agree with the original poster 100 percent, and I cant say that I havent done the same. Some of my expert badges I used artillery to get the kills for otherwise I was in a chopper or a jet or on foot helping out.

Now that I have expert everything besides transport and armor I can help my team with WHATEVER is needed, I dont need to knife people for gain, but to laugh my ass off and corpse hump their face.

Hell since the release of 1.3 I have been playing a lot of the USI mod because its unranked, runs a lot smoother because its unranked and is just a fresh change of pace besides constant warlord, ghost town, karkand, sharqi rotation that were all getting sick of.

They are slowly becoming the de dust and de dust, aztec and office of CS:S for me.

I wish more people would focus on squad work instead of being ****ed they cant squad cycle to help them get badges faster.

        Its bullhockey imo.

True, I like the stats and badges but you can clearly tell people are desperate for 1337 stats, for instance people create 2nd accounts just so they can jet whore. If their were no stats they would just jet whore on their first account.

But if that is true why did the 1.3 make a huge number of awards etc easier to get?

A lot of point awards were to promote teamplay. In '42 medics would often just run about scoring kills and healing only themselves, not teammates. That's why there's now heal points. Similarly we now have kill assists, capture assists, special ability assists, defend cp, etc. all of which are teamplay focused points.

The short answer to the original question is yes. Sadly there are a lot of people more interested in bright shiny things than teamplay. I would love to see all the the stats gone. However this isn't the only problem, it's just one of many.

Re: BF2 STATS are killing the game and the boards?

I know a secret! You can do the teamplay thing and rack up big scores. All you have to do is adjust your game play. Instead of trying to get every kill and take every flag just hang with the squad and try to keep each other alive as long as possible! Remember that little talked about stat SPM, The less time you spend looking at the respawn screen the higher that will go and the higher your score will go each round. If everyone in a squad works to keep each other alive as long as possible the whole squad will have a higher score. Since Ive been playing the game Ive worked with only 5 or 6 groups of guys that played this way. We almost always had the high squad score and though we did get killed we almost always got revived.
You might ask so what happened to those groups? Well, If a couple of you cant make the game for a few days (server is always full or computer problems etc.) then the group slowly breaks down and is no more. Soon everyone just moves on. Sometimes Ill find a couple of guys that I can work well with but it only usually lasts a day or two. Sigh, Thats the nature of the game in the Pubs.
The stat system is nice but a good player can usually tell within 3 or 4 minutes if they are going to be able to go for a badge and maybe get it. The lesser experienced players cant do this and usually waste the whole game getting killed with thier knife out. The better players will move on and do something else while the others will not.
I guess the short version is that the stats arent hurting the game but the players that chase the stats above all else are. Maybe these guys should give up the stat chase for just one day and attempt to play the game in a different way I fell it would permantly change thier game play, dont you? . . . . . . . . Red

Have you noticed I have no avatar or SIG to slow down loading time. Never have and probably never will.

Now I wonder, are stats killing the game and it original intent?

How many players are in the game, so intent on getting that expert
knife badge, expert Medic, expert this, expert that, etc.., they ignore
all orders from their commanders, and requests from squad mates?

Players seem to be more preoccupied with acquiring these badges
and medals, than playing as a team! If I see a medic get waxed, I
will pick up his pack, revive him, drop the pack, and continue offering
him support until he gets his wits about him.

As a commander, count how many times you've seen an enemy flag
completely devoid of enemy troops, and order a squad to attack the
base, then you get the obligatory "Yes Sir" and they run in a totally
                  different direction?

I can count the number of time on one hand I have actually been ingame
with a squad that actually work as a squad, supporting each other, helping
each other! It's seems most people only join a squad so they can spawn
in at a particular point on the map.

It would be cool if EA/DICE could figure out a way to minus points for
objectives that are NOT acheived, or even attempted! The whole squad
would be punished for not working together to acheive a goal! Impossible?
                  Probibly, more realistic, definitely!

On a seperate note, the stats signatures are out of control on the boards.
They slow down the load times, and screenshots like this one:

are just plain rediculous. A 700+kb image has no place on a messageboard.

totalbf2 admin, get control of this stuff, they are killing your
                  messageboard.

exactly, thats why everyone plays Karkand and whores it up at the Hotel flag...

Re: BF2 STATS are killing the game and the boards?

I recomend that you dl and play project reality. At the moment there are realitively few players 100 and any given time. But the maps are totally killer and there is actually alot of teamplay. Yesterday I was flying a full little bird filled with squad mates. I landed near a flag they all jumped off and capped the flag the commander told us to attack. Now I know that sounds small but how often does that kind of thing happen in Vanilla BF2? Or in a different server i was on a rooftop as a sniper and talking my squad through this cool little town on a bridge (saving private ryan esque). And get this they actually listened when I warned them about enemys running at them. And I got a thank you when I popped someone and saved their life. People in project reality are playing the mod because they want something about teamwork so the increase in team play is huge.

The truth is stats havent hurt teamplay, people dont work as a team in games like AA or CSS its just not in peoples nature to get along.

I will check out project reality... I saw the articles at this
site, but didn't realize it was up and running yet!

I love a lot of these mods, but it is tough to find good servers
to play on. I have USI installed, but I often can only locate High
Ping (Euro or West Coast) servers. I donwloaded USI for the A-10
alone!! LOL The maps are nice too... BIG and loaded with swift
                      armour!

I will check out PR.. thanks!

I just went to download PRMM, and read that there is no
update yet for the 1.3 Patch? Is this still true, or did the
PRMM users find that there is no incompatability with the
                      1.3 patch?

I belive the solution for the original author would be to play on unranked servers :)

Isn't that what some public servers are for? A place to blow off some steam and just chill out and have fun?

I'm sure that if people wanted teamplay, they'd join a clan, right?

Don't get me wrong, I hate stat-padders as much as the next guy. But honestly, teamwork... in a public server... chance will be a fine thing!

i disagree and agree, in 1 way they do because of the compition but overall it gives yourself a challenge to get over ya kills to deaths or get way beyond it :P
