We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
the info was still there and as can be expected, it spread like wildfire given that this is the internet...
acknowledgement of the issue and assurance that they are working on is all you will ever get from a publicly traded company.... it could come from a gold-plated press release to be read at the White House or from a forum reply on a fan-site...that doesnt matter.
Exactly, I know that it isn't an official statement, however, there has been no word from any section of EA regarding the patch (apart from updating gamespy) since it came out more than a week ago. So the fact that there are these small 'unofficial' statements cropping up on forums says quite a lot, they've obviously been restricted from talking about it by EA before this, otherwise a similar statement would have been made a week ago.
Oh come on, 1.3 was produced in someones *** break.
You can't patch a game that's a year old making it unstable for servers and clients alike, introduce two big features that not many wanted or asked for, then after a week of silence turn around and say 'Errr dunno, dunno nothing, what caused it, when it will be fixed, don't even know what we're doing to fix it'.
It's nothing short of a scandal !
What do I expect? I expect them to say 'we have a team working on this, they suspect these are the reasons, we are doing xyz and we expect to have a solution in X many days, we are 100% committed to addresing this issue'
Of course the reality is with the failure of the boosters to bring in revenue required despite being committed to bring out 1.3 it was then done with minimal resources, the fix to 1.3 the same. If this was true you'd expect a statement like the one they gave.
So currently you've possibly two coders working on it whilst the rest are busy on producing 2142. On these very forums I said WAY before 2142 was even annouced it will be out for Christmas.
As far as EA are concerned BF2 is done and dusted, you'll get a bit of lip service to longer term support but more than that forget it.
Seems about right to me, they know its broken, they are going to fix it but they are still trying to track the faults down. There is no point in them saying that they will release a 1.31 patch tommorrow or next week when they are still looking into the cause(s) of the problems. There is no point is saying anything (apart from recognising a problem) until you know what is wrong. This has turned into a PR nightmare for then now and I can't blame them for taking there time on this one, I'de do the same myself and I have in the past.
Remember everyone is allowed to make mistakes now and again............even EA/Dice
I think it's good your so chilled and I agree. The first patch they did they dropped one told everyone to uninstall and would work on the issue until fixed.
However this issue was caused not by a mistake it was caused as it was a half arsed effort.
There isn't a huge team of people working on a solution, you say you would acknowledge the problem then go and solve it. That's all fine and dandy but if your customers started to think you were just saying that meanwhile working on the next big pay you'd maybe understand them getting a little bit annoyed.
I have seen EA do exactly the same thing time and time again. CNC Zero Hour, BFME. What really winds me up is that they have not got the honesty to say 'look guys we're done with Bf2' instead we given a horrible patch and then spun a yarn about how maybe sometime perhaps they'll tell us what their doing about it.
Oh and "in the near future" to them means within two months. Don't get your hopes up guys, even if there is a hotfix, it would need to be tested, which takes at least two weeks.
Tested?? Lmao... You're kidding, right? We all know there's no testing involved!
These guys should run for congress. They use politics-speech perfectly!
he he.
I think there is a art form to corperate speak. And they expect us to swallow it? HAW!
It's basically the same as a 2 year old caught with the cookie hiding the choclatey hand to one side while trying to distract parents with something else.
Its Friday, suns shining, finish work in half an hour (finish at 3 on a friday :p ) ....

I'm not trying to flame you here, just to be clear at the start ......
Your making assumptions here (to be honest and so am I and every one else, on every forum that does not work directly on BF2 and any/all patches). Companies have different policies on how they update or inform their customers on what's in the next release or when a bug fix, if any, will be released. You have no contract with EA/Dice as to how they they will support you, either through fixing a problem or informing you of updates. They do it because they think it is good. EA (as the publisher) have no contractual penilties linked to them when you buy a game published/developed by them. This comes down to PR, the devs might know whats wrong and how to fix it but they are not the official contacts with the community. The devs could say they have fixed it and a patch is sitting on a server waiting to be officially released but its the management/pr guys that tell us when things are available. I'm sure the devs are giving updates to their managers as to how things are going regarding what the problems are, how they will be fixed and when the will be released internally.

This is a PR thang and is to do with EA directly and no one else, but since they announced 2142 this type of thing is inevitable and to be expected, I wouldn't be supprised that once the client and server crashes are sorted out we would see some statement from EA regarding and eol for the game i.e. no more support.
I think that if they don't know the solution, or think it will take longer than a few days then they should officially announce a roll back, why sit waiting for the hotfix for weeks when we can roll back and get back to playing?

Two points you raise, first one I base how much support will be given on the basis of experiance with two recent ish games. EA have a formula, produce game, produce patch, move most of team onto next project, leaving a small amount of resource on another patch. End of support, maybe if your lucky another patch but it'll be ropey or take ages.
Cue BF2 same pattern, as I recall SF was annouced after first big patch..... Then EA stated prior to it's release that there may not be further patch's. SF sold well, two boosters announced cue another two patch's, one booster one patch. Sounds fair to me, but........
The first booster didn't sell well so EA do what EA do. I've seen this before there was uproar in Zero Hour and on BFME, how can they do this, when will the patch be and so on.

Well PR from a large company I'd expect it to be like it is.
EA Community Updates are funny.... let's all recall the post they made last year after screwing up a patch:
Community Update - 7/22/05
Since its launch, we've tried to give Battlefield 2 all the support it deserves by releasing patches with the fixes and improvements you've asked for. Unfortunately, we haven't lived up to the standards we've set for ourselves. So all of us at EA and DICE are working extra hard to make sure that your Battlefield 2 experience improves dramatically in the coming weeks.
So, almost a year after failing to meet their own internal standards, nothing has changed. Nice.
