hinting back on the kb vs mouse argument I would just like to say I own a saitek X52, hardly because of battlefield 2 and all because of it.

Oxymoron... I know.

I started my computer gaming career playing flight sims, mainly from origin systems before they were purchased and corrupted by EA games and then Christopher Roberts formed Digital Anvil, which made that ****ty Wing Commander Movie and then his company disbanded.

Anyway BF2 has arcade like flight physics in it so it really doesnt matter what you fly with.

I can tell you anyone who is a jet pilot can agree, JOYSTICK > MOUSE there really is no arguing about that because you cannot do the same stuff in a jet with a mouse that you can with a joystick. And a throttle on top of all things will prevent you from accidentally EJECTING.

Now technically you can do everything the other can do but with a mouse you have to lift, put down, move, lift, put down, move when you've reached the end of the mouses area for movement. With a Joystick, you crank in the direction you need to go and hold it.

I cannot tell you how easy it is to take out people who fly anything with a mouse especially if you pay attn to how they fly and how they evade you can tell instantly if they're a jet pilot or a mouse pilot.

mouse pilot will try to fly around in a constant circle while joystick pilots will do a half loop to barrel roll right back into a half loop. You just cant do that with a mouse fast enough not to crash into something.

As far as piloting a helicopter you can pretty much perform all of the same manuvers with either platform.

I convinced one of my buddies to get a saitek x52 as opposed to his uber gay cyborg evo and I have turned 3 doubters into believers.

The trottle alone and all of the things you can map to it and the joystick make it worth having. I dont need to touch my keyboard for anything but to eject and deploy my parachute.

Its not a matter of a joystick making me god in the skies, but its more of using the proper tools for the proper job.

I dont have the worlds greatest jet stats and I dont have the worlds greatest helicopter stats because I am a balanced player I do everything. If I just jet whored id probably be in the top 100 pilots with 45k kills in a jet.

It gets boring in the skies and sometimes I just want to corpse hump someone.

After years of flying simulators and such (FS9, X-Plane, F4, LOMAC, IL2/PF...you name it), flying with an Saitek X52 and TrackIR, the whole she-bang, and coming into BF2's simplified kindergarden Flight Model, A keyboard is all I need.

Honestly, I'll probably get flamed for this, but the keyboard has always rained supreme when it came to Arcadish BF2 flying. I tried using the X52, but the controls were overwhelmingly sluggish with very slow reaction times.

I just had an overall feeling of sluggishness, and non-crisp movements. I couldn't stand it; it was impossible to line up a shot. Using my mouse is phenomenal, however. You have all the Axis of flight right on your mouse; yaw, pitch, roll, ect, and therefore, ligning up shots with ground objects like AA is a LOT easier.

I just don't get how you guys can possibly think a joystick is better for flying specifically in BF2.

Mabey it's just the way I had it set up, but the controls are absolutely icky. Slow, sluggish, not crisp and clean, Not what I would expect from my X52. I had sensitivities maxed as well.

I have absolutely no problems turning, keeping up, and out turning any man gracing the BF2 skies. It only takes a small amount of forward movement of your mouse to pull you through a 360 along with all the other joysticker's.
