I've played for over a year now, worked on the game at EA, and I still couldnt hit a house using a plane. I truly suck in planes.

Ground pounding and helo's though, a different story

        I suck at flying.

Had my finest moment in a jet the other day though...

Was whoring the Phalanx turret on wake island, shooting down the odd J10 when an F35b spawned. I thought what the hell and ran for it. Took off and climbed steeply. When i got over Wake Island i saw a green square, i realised this must be an enemy jet and i flew straight at it, Turns out i was behind him so i locked on and fired all six missiles. I hit him once and he was smoking. He turned left and i turned right, and we ended up facing each other. So i rammed him.

        Ahh my first aerial kill!

yes... ramming... there is another topic just waiting to explode!

i usually apologize for ramming, unless i get flamed before i can even apologize. you have to remember one thing, most pilots dont want to ram. the vehicle gets way more kills if it stays in the air (duh).

God bless those of you who cannot fly. It makes the game better for me.

Seriously, here is help for potential pilots. (This is only from my experience... There is much room for improvement.)

            NatureBoy_Wooo's jet tips:

The jet is the most awesome piece of death and destruction in BF2
Here are a few tips for noobs from my experience

            1. Fly High... Very very high.. You can barely see the ground.
            • The higher you are, the chances of an enemy pilot detecting you is remote. When you are way up there you can still see the enemy jets flying under you. When you see an enemy pilot crossing below you, simply swoop in behind him and take him out. It is too late for him.
            • Never fire a missle unless you get a good missle lock tone. Wait for the enemy to use their flares and get a good lock again before you fire. If you can keep a lock, two missles should take him out.
            • When you are high it is the best opportunity to take out ground targets with the highest accuracy. Simply spot the target and do a straight dive bomb on to the target. release the bombs right before it is to late for you to pull out of the dive. Dead! Dead! Dead! Sometimes when you get lucky enough to encounter a squad, you will kill 5 or 6 of them with one load of bombs.
            2. Always lead your target.
            • When using guns (which are quite powerful) fly steady, anticipate the moves of your target and lead him. this can be quite tricky at first. Watch out for good enemy pilots that lead you right into a cliffside or big smokestack.
            3. Watch UAV and listen to people spotting targets. Use your HUD.
            • This will ensure that you get as many kills as possible per round. It will also prevent you from bombing a target with 12 of your teammates there trying to capture the flag. Next thing you know, your score is -48.. and that is if they do not punish you.
I may add more later. I am too drunk right now to think.

P.S. I am a pretty good pilot. I usually get 15-40 kills per round in a jet, depending on the situation. Just remember - There are always pilots way better than you. When I run into a good pilot and have been shot down 5 times in 5 minutes, I get the F out of the plane and start playing something else. Know your limitations.

            Hope this helps.

I fly a perty mean attack chopper tho. I just have "flow" with those things.
I can still whore a transport to good effect as long as I've got a squad with me that knows what they're doing.
You obviously do not know the potential of a good jet pilot to bring your team to victory. If someone can take out 40 tickets without losing his life once, there is a great chance you will win the round. Also, when I hear "Enemy armor spotted", the armor is dead within a matter of seconds. That saves my team another 5 - 8 tickets right there.

            Think it through.

Jets aren't my thing and probably never will be (I played 1942 for a year+ and never flew), I just started flyign heli's (< 30 hours) but I'm still marginal at best.

I'm better in a plane than a heli, but to be honest I suck at both... even with a joystick.

I've played about a 100 hours ,since june -05, and i've never had a problem flying(with buttons). But then i played bfV before then also... When bf2 came out it was a bit harder to fly at first but once you can do it there's no problem...

Re: Anyone played for a year and still can't attack using planes and helis or fly?

i never realy flew anything wheni 1st started playing bf2(no jotstick)

but a good m8 of mine (dc pilot god) would fly me in cooplan so i got realy good as a gunner,

i can fly the blackhawk very easy nowadays,

i can also fly the attack heli but cant get the hovering down (yet)

my 1st go on bf2 with a plane(keyboard mouse)was not good, but since my new thrust predator joystick i have got better,my best streak with a plane was in a j10 on wake 18-1 for the whole round,i wanted basic aviator medal.
yes i no 1 more kill i would have got the ribbion to(darn errr)

im more comfortable in planes than attack choppers.
still learning with thanks to my m8,who thinks dc_choppers were easyer to manouver?? and he says bf2 attack heli's dont give the fredom of movment like the old dc_helo's (i couldn't even get a dc_helo flying straight)

single player/coop with a m8 who is a good pilot is a great help.
keep up the pracy and soon you should be able to hold youre own in the sky :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. :)

I fly with kb only. I find that mouse is even harder to control. Why's that so? I'm using Razer DB btw.

And if I get a joystick like those from Logitech will it make things easier???:p

                          agreed

being able to slide your throttle to just above stall speed and cruise around, creates a fine line between does and dont's with an aircraft.

I can fly very well, and I use a mouse and keyboard...of course I have been playing the battlefield series for almost 3 years. :)

30K+ points now and the only flying I did was on Iron Gator where I saw someone running toward the Apache so jumped in (I was MEC and the shooting in the hanger suddenly your on the top deck bug hit me). I then proceeded to fly it off the side horizontally and into ocean.

I have never been good at flying and at this late stage of the game I do not see me even getting my basic heli and jet badges unless I really annoy my team and just head for the sky and go around in circles up there

The most common advice I hear in regard to this is that you need to set the mouse sensitivity to some ungodly number--like 10--in your Heli/Plane settings page.

If you want to become "the best," in general, all the top pilots seem to use a joystick for planes and the mouse/KB for choppers.
