Ok I have news after hours of reading im playing again heres what I did.

1. Turn off firewall and antivirus (had a huge impact)

2. Changed some punkbuster settings
Bring down the console by pressing ` (next to the 1 key)

Type the following pb_sleep500
and pb_writecfg

This changes the time that punkbuster updates.

3. Delete the shaders files in your /mydocuments/battlefield/mods/bf2/cache (delete all the folders)

4. Be sure you have the latest video drivers and sound and hopefully all should be sweet after that. Please report back and let me know if this solves and issues for you.

My ping is stable at 40ish My graphics get a little choppy at times (still working on that) but im playing :) and that makes me happy after 4 days trying to get the thing going.

I was lagging until I went back to the 83.90 drivers from the new 91.28's. I'm sure the patch has something to do with it, but the new forceware drivers without a doubt had something to do with my lag.

nope no lag. i acctually had better performance after 1.3. im very happy w/ the patch. coop is just plain. amazing. grab you and a buddy vs. 30 bots on 100% difficulty. lots of fun. its funny as hell when they are all throwing grades at u in a tank. there actually pretty smart to. flanking. things like that. there not very good in vehicles though.

i haven't had any lag issues. the only problem i've been having is getting the message saying there is a problem with your connection and the screen freezes. sometimes it fixes and i can continue to play. other times i get disconnected from the server. it would happen very rarely before the patch. now it seems to happen all of the time. the other computers on my network work ok while i'm having this problem just not the game. anyone else experiencing this problem.

Servers that I usally ping 25 to, I am now pinging 60 to. There are also strange spikes that happen a lot where I cant hit a targe that I usually nail dead on. Things have gotten more glitchy.

I have a dual 7800 gtx system and after 1.3 I get constant lag.
Today I was kicked 4 times never had this problem before.

Some servers I play on are having some nasty lag issues. A good 20 second lag spike that affects everyone on the server (my clan buddies on TS lag out at the same time). Sometimes kicks everyone off, sometimes not.

You obviously have no issues and are one of the lucky ones so basicly if you have no decent input to add to this tread them F%$CKOFF and go play BF2 and let us sort out some issues.

Here's where I'm at.

1. No lag from 1.03 til 1.22

2. Major lag immediately after 1.3 (incremental patch); can't play for more than 10 minutes. game bogs down.

3. Reinstalled 1.3 (full patch); same lag

4. Uninstalled BF2; reinstalled from CD and applied 1.22; same lag

5. Bends over for EA; they're truly screwing me now

I'm having major problems with the "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONNECTION" message, which basically freezes everything. Then you end up getting kicked. Also, seems to lag at the start of a round and gets better as the game progresses.

I play on some good aussie servers and after I lose connection, I notice that the server goes from 64/64 to 10/64. Never happened before 1.3.

It really is frustrating as it is now taking away the enjoyment of playing BF2.

There is definately a server side issue, servers are crashing and booting every 1 they are working on that issue.
There really seems to be an issue with firewalls Im using zonealarm and as soon as I turned it off bingo ping settled imediately its as though the fire wall is stopping some of the packets from getting through. Dunno im no expert on firewalls but there seems to be an issue there.

I get an average ping of 20-30 on UK servers, but recently (since the patch) i'm going from about 60 to 400 then up to 600 back down to 300 (you get the picture). Its made sniping almost impossible, I can't lead when its laggy like that. You would have thought EA/DICE would have fixed the code...oh wait they CAN'T CODE!

Btw boojie - you said it slows down after ten mins...could it be a mem leak or something?

Exactly the same problem as I had try looking back a page and try some of the things I did especially the firewall. Cant hurt to try.

I seriously am VERY frustrated at the moment. It's now 9:12pm here and I've been trying to have a game of BF2 since 8pm. Freezes, CTD's, lag... I think I'm not going to bother with this game anymore till they release a fix. What a waste of money...

I'm off to play some Top Spin 2 on my 360...
