every time it closed itself...i reopened it and it got up to were it closed to an did say 30% more...i kept doing this till i finished objects_client and after that it was all good, and it plays fine.

This is really strange, because im getting that same error. Ive done the registry clear and everything and tried again, with no luck. I found my BF2 Special Forces CDs so I decided to install it. When the expansion tried to update the game, I got that error again... I have used these CDs in the past to install SF and they have worked fine. Now I am completely lost...
I heard installing the patches in safe mode works well to.... I've never tried it though.... To go into safe mode, press the F8 key continuously right after you turn on your computer.

Yeah, I was able to both install SF and patch to 1.3 using an old exe, worked fine! Thanks for pointing this out! Now comes the true test, will BF2 even run? lol

Did you get your harddrive space back? Mine did this also, but I use "CCleaner" to clear my harddrive again after 5 failed attempts and 30GB used. Googlew search for a download.
I have to try the advice given here to clear BF2 also
No, it's supposed to clear all unwanted /and unuseable data off your harddrive. Gives you the options for things you do and don't want to delete. Incredibly simple
Edit. Your patch, and all useable files should remain
i ponder about with the same probs but uninstalling and reinstalling the game then installing the new patch out allways works though its a pain in the backside hope this helps

Haha no it doesn't. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it so many times I've lost count. Plus I think I'm doing damage to my game doing it this frequent. I can't even I can play BF2 single player anymore (before even updating the patch)
