I agree with strega, squad hopping should have been removed, but squad cycling is acceptable....

P.S: FF should always be on....

I see your point and after careful thinking.. yes .. squad hopping should be removed alltogether and Squad cycling should be a serverside option.

Not that it really matters, but I find it extremely unlikely that EA will roll back this change. As much as I'd like to be able to cycle the SL (as would happen in real life situations - next in command takes over the post), I don't think it'll happen.

i guess my opinion comes from the fact when i served we never had reinforcements magically spawn off us and i play this game to recapture my lost youth spent in the USMC. personally i like the sqaud leader idea but spawn leader took it too far for me. I prefer the old spawn point idea. but thats just my preference. i like organizing into a unit and moving in on a point to take it. and once that flag is white if there happens to be one guy alive and he could turn into a squad leader and respwan a whole squad is frustrating after the hard work of killing them all...

Thats right, i never was in a clan and probably never will - nothing against clans, i just can't afford to spend the time on a regular base.

But you actually made some thinking error:
If some clan league, ladder, whatsoever likes or dislikes squad hopping they can set up a new rule and enforce it on their members => problem solved.

So this is completely about public servers !!!

There it should be an option as you simply can't force people to play a certain way - nor should you - for the reasons i stated above.

All it takes to fix the game is to fix the bugs that are in the game since it came out or got introduced by some crappy patch and make the other "improvements" (anti squad hopping, cartillery, ...) a server side setting. This way everyone will be happy - you, me, pubbers & clans. Wtf is the problem with that ???

squad cycling eliminates the necessity of keeping the squad leader alive. quite often squad cyclers end up losing a match when they are carrier raping with no flags. cycling is definitly the worse of the two, squad leaders dont need to play smart. the squad leader is an important position, and cyclers just screwed things up.

hopping wasnt really that bad for the team element of the game, but im glad they are both gone.

Squad cycling should definantly be allowed. In the military when a squad leader dies the next in command takes their place as the squad leader until the entire squad is dead. Granted in this game you can respawn but none the less someone should take the place of command for at LEAST the time your dead.

It didnt hurt to tone down hopping. Cycling was the more useful and realistic tool.

by that logic then when the commander gets killed someone should be able to take his place too...resulting in commander hopping

In combat cycling to the next in command for a squad is an on the spot process, when a commander dies on a battlefield (not to often) there is no immediate replacement for him. It took us a week to get a new CSM when ours got killed, and that was during a combat action.

As far as the game goes, there's no pool to draw a new commander from. unlike in a squad, where you have six guys working towards a common goal, the intention is known, a new commander in the middle of a battle would be at a loss, as he isn't in the flow of the round.

I'm glad both Squad hopping and Cycling has been removed.

Those who squadhopped can use the normal spawnpoints attached to flags as supplied by Dice's friendly mapping company.

Squad cycling was basicly an exploit, it has no base in realism, and its not a real "skill". It made backcapping to easy, the way its now, people will have to apply some real tactics and skill, or die.

These (squad hopping/cycling supporters & objectors) are simply 2 different groups who like to play the game a different way. While the first like to play it more arcade style the second prefer a more tactic/realistic way. Both ways are absolutely valid.

The real mistake was made by DICE by forcing these two groups to play together instead of introducing this as a server side setting so all were happy.

I had a long session of BF2 for the first time in many months (on vacation from work :-D ) and I managed to get two full squads, 1 five man squad and 1 four man squad going on 4 different servers, without ever asking anybody to join! Before the patch I don't even remember the last time I managed to get a full squad going without even having to invite anynoe. These guys last night were joining my squad simply because I was a good player and appears that now there's incentive for players to find good squad leaders with the new patch.

I think the removal of both is a great thing, now you just need to keep your squadleader alive and the squad leader needs to play smarter instead of rushing into the action. The role actually means something now. I haven't played alot of BF2 with 1.3 yet but In Project reality there is a same sort of deterrent (30 seconds spawn penalty upon leaving and rejoining) in place and it really keeps squads working together.

Also a group of friends or clan members could easily dominate public servers by cycling squadmembers and having a continous spawnpoint near an important flag. They have a much harder time now.
