Squad Hopping vs. Squad Cycling...your thoughts?

Let us first define the 2 terms...

    Squad Hopping:
The practice of leaving a squad when you die, opening up the map and finding a SL* that is closest to the area you want to spawn, joining his squad and spawning on him. Either staying in his squad, or leaving and creating your OWN squad once you have spawned, so other teammates can spawn on you.

    Squad Cycling:
The practice of leaving your own squad and rejoining it when you die, so that you can spawn on your own squad with a new SL*.

Ok now to discuss the new changes with 1.3...

Both of the features/bugs above, have been removed from the game. I believe that Squad Hopping is a bug and should be removed. However, I believe that Squad Cycling should be a feature of the game.

    Thoughts??

I see you point here, when I join a squad in pubs I tend to stay with that squad for the duration of my stay, yes I cycled out many times to allow another squad member to take the lead and respawn on him continuing our assault on either a flag or to help defend a flag.

Its a shame that its been taken out with 1.3 I do wish they would reinstate it asap or you will just see more lonewolf players running around.

If the squad hopping is out then the ability to appoint another squad leader would be a work around feature that doesn't allow the bombing but does allow individual squads to stay alive.

Both bad very very bad ..EA didnt eliminate it they just made it more costly ticket and time wise to do. I wish they could have eliminated it all together, heck spawn somewhere anywhere the commander will drop u a vehicle to get back there

Doesn't seem like it would be too diffucult to implement the logic behind this. Only allow a dead person to rejoin the same squad if he chooses to leave (to create a new squad leader). That would effectively cut out squad hopping while dead, but still allow a squad to stay alive in the heat of battle.

If you're gonna say it's bad, you're gonna have to give examples why or no one is gonna value your opinion, ya know?

How about a mobile spawn point the SL can deploy? Wait...

I understand them not letting you spawn on the SL the first time you spawn, but, why cant you join squads when youre dead? Its so frustrating to have to go into the squad bar when youre alive, attempt to join a squad and then find that you get killed before you get the chance. Why not let people join squads when theyre dead, but not leave them?

bad cuase EA stated long before the game came out it was intended to relive the spawn location raping so prevelant in the BF series. To give a mobile spawn point.

short sited they were because they were astounded when people used it for other than it was intended, getting one guy thru the lines and everyone switching to him and bam instant full team behind ur lines making teamwork and defensive strats useless bringing the bf series to a new arcade style low not intended.
now most only use it moderatly to keep their squad alive and that a grey area in my mind the the rampant abuses of it were so bad matches became more like star trek with scottie beaming in attack parties anywhere on the map than the bf series form up and assault a point.

some cried oh my the game will be so slow but this is untrue the game isnt any slower you just have to work a tad harder for a flag now.

While i used squad hopping mostly when i joined a new server to find some good squad leader i liked squad cycling when i played with some mates to keep our squad alive at the battlearea because i loved the faster pace - one of the reasons - changes from BF1942 / BFV - i loved BF2 for.

I can understand if some say this "beaming around" is an "exploit" but imho is turning FF off - generally or just for mines & clays - a much bigger "exploit" (or call it unrealistic).

However its a game, so all this "it's not realistic" discussion is obsolete, it just depends on the way people like to play.

Imho it's unacceptable to disable it now - after nearly a year - as it's a major change to the possibilities in the game and i wouldn't have bought the game if it came out like it is now - so they kind of stole my money as it was clearly intended for online gaming which i don't like any more.

So the - quite simple - solution is: make it a server side option, so everybody can play on servers with the setting one likes.

PS: I never saw "one guy getting through the lines and BAM the whole team spawns on him"! Thats simply an exaggeration. And it's still possible for 1 guy to slip "through the lines" and 5 others to spawn on him, leave his squad and form a new one so BAM the whole team can spawn on them. The people just have to join while they are alive - so it changed nothing!

I don't think either form of squad manipulation should be implemented.

The concept of playing squad leader is that you're the "heart" of the squad. The Squad needs to operate dynamically around you, while pushing for the objectives that you set out and using you as a means to keep the fight alive.

If you die, the squad needs to revive it's heart/brain to keep going, or it dies. You're the center point, you're a VIP in the movement, coordination, and effectiveness of your squad.

Allowing the squad leader to just flop through the ranks strictly for the use of his "mobile spawn" ability takes away from this. Effectively now you have a squad that's persistent even through their mistakes. They are without punishment unless you wipe them out until the last bailing, 1-Bar of Health, Sniper. If that given squad doesn't want to balance its self around two "VERY IMPORTANT OBJECTIVES":

                            1. Being balanced enough to take flags and confront any opposition.

                            2. Keep the squad leader alive to provide a "mobile" spawnpoint.

Then in all good faith they deserve to have to start over.

...at least, that's how I feel about it.
