Destroying artillery with a vodnik

A putfile video is going around with a commander destroying artillery with a vehicle drop, but the video showed that the cannon was already damaged, so we were discussing it in #bf2s and I decided to see if it was possible to destroy a healthy cannon with just a single vehicle drop.

Here is the results:

Battlefield 2 1.3 brought a new commander feature, droppable light vehcles, "Great!" you might say.
However in public servers there is always a way to exploit new features.
Here you can destroy enemy artillery cannons simple by precise dropping a Gaz Vodnik (or HMMWV) onto the enemy artillery.

In the video I damaged the cannon slightly then repaired it back to full to prove that this was a full health cannon, then the car comes down and obliterates it in seconds. it then takes 2 FULL wrech charges to bring the cannon back online and restore it to full health.

Wow, how come the testers didn't discover this? It seems like one of the first things commanders would try.

Hilarious, but looks like you need a bang on hit, is it harder than it looks or was this a first time effort?

I missed the first time because i dropped the car on the middle of the arty setup, the second time (in the video) I dropped it on the cannon barrel itself which was just off center, as you can see it gave instant results.

Nah, but seriously, this is hardly what DICE intended the vehicle drop for, just like "cartillary". I think this feature might have to be removed. It's a shame because having it used properly could be a brilliant asset to the team.

It doesnt need removing, it just needs to be changed so that they can only be dropped when a squad leader requests them.

It's not at all surprising it wasn't found in testing - it's taken thousands of players a few days before a post has been written describing the problem, that's probably a thousand times more hours than was given to the testers for testing the patch. Asking the question "How can this be missed in testing?" makes it sound like the most obvious thing in the world to do, whereas most of the testing effort would have gone into making sure that the vehicle dropped actually worked, and then they'd need to regression test most of the game to make sure it hadn't broken anything else...
