    Re: End of alternative ranking/mods??

It's all about promoting the next game 2142 people. It is no different than if a company was making a body kit for the new mustang before it came out that could be put on the old mustang...Ford would become unglued as it would eat into their sales. It really is a no-brainer.

Please do not think I support this, only that it is expected these days. There is no "customer satisfaction or loyalty" anymore.

Its a stats and ranking system thats seperate to EA all together giving mods and custom maps chance to be ranked in their own worlds..., as far as i see it anyhow.

ABR (Alternative Battlefield Ranking) gives you the possibility of collect stats with your server almos the same way EA's does it, so ABR provides ranking for mods, Tournaments and also for the plain BF2... all for free...

The thing is... we took 12 hores on ABR to figure out how to workarround the hosts check from the new patch... but ABR is not prepared to release this solution yet until some conversations with DICE and EA are over. ABR Has a Bright future :) that's all I can tell you right now.

Im an old Battlefield Player, since BF42 Wake Demo (MP) a long long time ago... now BF2 has renamed the franchise to "BETAfield", is not the amount of patches (BF42 went up to v1.61b), is the quallity of them. Form me.. the great difference between BF42 and BF2 is 'The Boss'.

BF42 was developed by Digital Ilusions, a little European company. BF42 was an amazing game, bad programing, but an amazing game, great graphics, excelent gameplay.. full of bugs .. but an amazing game. So DICE starts releasing patches por the game, fixing bugs and addming new variables to the Gameplay... I remember the change of russian assault weapons from the B.A.R. tho the Type xx this kind of UFO-Looking gun... or the M1 garand rifle for the USA Engeneers instead of the old Enfield Nº4 on the pacific maps. Also, with new patches, came up new maps for the game.. and yes people.. FOR FREE!!, that's the history of Aberdeen, Coral Sea and Battle for Britain... that was a great manouver by DICE... At the end, they move on to start supporting BF:V, a great game, but not great enought.. and the BF2.. a compleate new game that I bought in NO TIME thinking on the old days of 42... ERROR... EA acquires DICE.. so no DICE is under the umbrela of corporational policies ... now DICE have SELL their maps... instead of releasing it to the community on every Game Patch, to make 400 mb of patch downloading worthy of dowloading it...

BF42 was a great game for modders, with support from the devs of the main game, a lot of grat mods (they are still here) like Forgotten hope, Eve of Destruction, Desert Combat (Trauma Studios creation... they inspire the BF2 development...), etc... a lot of NEW MAPS came up from the community.. finally DICE released the Pbf Mapping contests winners mappack as an official mappack.. great btw...

So what we see on BF2: Almost no mods, and that is not a lack of interest from the mod community, a lot of patches with a lot of BUGS and 'improvements' that nobody needs (more bugs), all the new content of the game is SOLD to the community (buggy content by the way).. and now.. as the final step of this escalade of ****... EA/DICE decide to cut down the alternative rankings with some system built in on the game.. so now, the few great mods that exists are cripple ... Proyect Reality is still wating until a new ABR solution... probably USI too.. .. so what's the IDEA?¿

It's seems to be that the IDEA is to keep selling.. to ensure that EVERYBODY who WANTS TO PLAY THIS GAME, after buying it... you have to KEEP PAYING EA SOME MONEY to RENT server to PLAY the GAME that you just bought... so the whole ranking system (good or bad) created by EA was made not for the fun of the player... instead... for the EA's POCKETS... and is not a bad thing.. the have to respond to the shareholders, so if some community members like the ABR crew, came up with this alternative system, FOR FREE to rank the mod community .. JUST FOR FUN... is now kind of compiting with EA and his own Ranking money-maiker machine?.. no it isnt... ABR is extending the life of the game, giving the people the possibility of playing th mods with the same ranking system provided by EA,...

EA people must be aware of all this issues, they are no stupid people... EA guys, if you dont remember... please at least try it... remember: the things wish made BF42 a GREAT and INCREDIBLE game.. was: The Community and thir MODS.. we doesnt buy your games because the new ranking ****, or the theme of the game.. we buy it thinking on a great game like 42. And that is the main factor for your next game... ppl will buy it almost only for loyalty to the franchise... I will not.. but somebody will probably do it. And right now, with things like this, you are killing the community loyalty.

What will happend now with ABR... we are wating for some conversations to be finish to make the next step. We are going to continue working for the community providing a great alternate system to play mods on BF2 and also, a ranking system for the people who can not get their hands into a EA ranked server (like the ppl on my country).

its far from great. Any idea why we dont release the fix to the public yet?
we want to talk to dice about it.
or else you can expect patch 1.4 to close the hole they left open in 1.3.

i am FAR from excited about your post.

I don't play much Vanilla BF2 anyways, I play USI. It is way better then BF2 in my opinion.

when ABR first came out i thought it was great. But there are some great mods out there or mini mods but even though if everyone played them it would be great but not enough people including myself play mods
