I don't know if many people realize this but ranks are Bad, they have ruined the game for many people and I think they are the reason BF2 is dieing. To me this is good news, it means that the mods will be unranked, so people will play for fun, not for ranks.

This here is an issue that if not resolved, people should feel free to be legitimatly be grouchy over.

EA needs to be more responsive to the Mod/3rd party community and more sensitive to those who are supporting their products through hard (and unpaid) work.

Exactly. After the effects of this patch wear off, this is an issue we should truly be t-ed off about.

I should note that I have no idea where communications between EA and ABR are currently at. We don't know if this is an insurmountable problem. That artical on ABR doesn't say it's a dead issue... only that they have to suspend their world server until they have a resolution. That resulotion could come in the form of finding a way to adapt their code to the new system or consessions granted via EA in a further patch.

The best way to browbeat EA on this issue it to look at if from a market survivability viewpoint. We know that EA's ranking system will not last forever. Without systems like ABR in place, some of BF2's key features have a finite lifespan... and thus, so does their income releated to the product.

Ranks are bad, that is the primary reason that you see such an overwhelming lack of teamwork in genreal. Everyone is too concerned with their imaginary medals and ribbons, coincidentaqlly, now those meaningless medals are even more meaningless since the criteria has been noobed up another level. The idea in itself of a ranking system is not a bad thing in genreal though. The way it was implemented in BF2 was horrible, initially it ended with the 2nd Lieutenant. Why no one at EA/Dice thought that this game would be more popular beyond that is undescribably ignorant. Ranks and stats in BF2 are only an indicator of your time spent on a map using a particular kit or vehicle and nothing more.

Mods, for the most part have ALWAYS been unranked. The ABR system was implemented in order to try and appease the regular BF2 stat wh0res. There has been stats in mods in the past with great success, (i.e, Counter-Strike w/ HLStats & Psychostats). This global ranking system is similar to what was undertaken by Star Wars Galaxies. In the end that game also suffered a mass exodus of loyal players leaving because of low quality patches, reduced criteria to be recognized as a "skilled" player, etc.

I'm sure if ABR cannot continue their relationship with EA/Dice in this endeavor it will be for a reason that they seem viable. Although, if no one else steps up to the plate to perform this function, then it would be considered a sure sign of BF2 slipping down the drain.

if EA can't make money off it (the mods) they aren't gonna fully support it.

EA is trying to kill BF2 to coerce people into buying the sure-to-be-crapheap that is BF2142.

It will be an act of god if BF2142 doesn't get the same treatment BF2 did.

Thats besides the point, no matter what you think of ABR if you like it or not EA has killed ABR for one reason only, and that money. ABR gives server admins a cheaper option rather than shelling out money to EA for a ranked server. If EA so quickly shut down ABR what happens when Project reality becomes more popular or USI or OPK etc.

If you dont like the ranks and awards and stuff then dont play on ranked servers simple

Some people like ranks and stats and they want them in the future mods they want to download

People who dont like ranks and stats should just stop bitching about them and play on non ranked servers:laugh:

Ding ding ding we have a winner!

EA doesn't care about them, especially since they are doign all the work for free (and it's probably better than EA's products)
