So, 1.3 came, and it destroyed. The main feature seems to be to encourage suiciding, although it is masqueraded as a measure to prevent squad-hopping (and squad-cycling too, apparently.) Also for those situations when arty runs out or is destroyed, you can drop a buggy on the enemy! And even the server browser has been nerfed - witness the demise of the refresh button!

At first it might seem odd for EA to release a patch that takes AWAY features from the game. It might even seem stupid, but it is not. It is very simple: Battlefield 2142 is being released soon, reportedly this fall. Battlefield 2 is still going strong, with dwindling revenues and constant support expenses. It is bad to compete with yourself. Therefore, EA are gradually breaking BF2 in order to make 2142 appear more appealing when it is released. I predict we will see a couple more "patches" before the new game comes out...

However, its bad business practice to deflate one product in hopes of promoting another product. A company can make more money by selling 2 successful products instead of ruining one in hopes to sell the other better.

This is just conspiracy theory. Name any game developer off the top of your head and I bet you can come up with several that regularly release game destroying patches. Game development isn't as easy as playing the games themselves unfortunately. Besides, why would any company purposely degrade their product to sell more copies of a new one when there's tons of genuine moves they can make to create more profit? If EA really wanted to inflate their profits they would just introduce another Special Forces unlock debacle and force BF2142 players into owning a copy of BF2.

You're talking about risky business moves that would make EA and DICE's stakeholders nervous. What if it created a backlash that caused no one to buy 2142? We all know how anal game communities are and I reckon EA and DICE know this all too well.

It works in reverse too buddy. EA would lose a ton of "goodwill". If people become disconcerted with BF2, do you really think they will buy the next title in the franchise? No.

That's why EA/Dice is walking the fine line of pleasing the "noobs" and pub players only and giving a giant "F*** YOU" to competitive play and the people that pay for servers. Anyway, the casual gamers are the ignorant masses that will buy a game despite it's developer 'purposely' ruining its predecessor, or that the preceding game was still not at 100% completion even a year after it was released. Anyway, by walking this fine line, they will still get sales even though BF2 keeps taking hits.

I don't think too many people who don't work for EA/Dice are going to say that they've done all they could to fix problems that shouldn't have been in the game to begin with. Then again, maybe they have and it's time to hire some more competent employees.

dont worry man... the assasins that ea sent were also updated and they seem to be crashing and are super slow and keep getting humvees dropped on their heads........

just watch out though maybe ea will artillery your house....:p

It's hard to have success after a game as awesome as BF42. It's like when a band has a huge success with their first album, its impossible to top and the second album is almost never as successful.

I bought the game a little while after it came out, after the M60/LAW madness. While it had a few bugs, I think most of them were ironed out in patches, instead of things just becoming worse and worse with every patch. Granted, the game was pretty bad a points, I don't think the patch "fixes" were as inept as they are in this game.

HAha creepa, you rat bastage, you made me laugh out loud here at work. Conspiracy theories are the best! I get no end of entertainment reading stuff like this. I suggest that you steer clear of the DaVinci Code or you'll never leave your house again.

I have played some, and have experienced a few issues - the refresh button being gone - meh, so what. Browser issues, mildly annoying, I have had the problem of joining a different server than the one you clicked on, but again, only mildly annoying. But to elieve that EA is doing it on purpose is beyond ridiculous.
