Squad Leader get no reward

So if the squad leader is supposed to hang back and play it safe while his squad members do the dirty work then how the heck does he get points?

I was a USMC SL on Karkand last night and, by the time I had worked myself halfway to the Suburbs, my squad had filled up. Kept hidden till almost to flag then hung back while the members took the flag. In the process we took on quite a few infantry/vodniks and, because I stayed in the shadows, kept spawning on me until we took the flag.

In the process, I ended up with 3 points while the rest of the squad averaged 6-8 points.

Speaking of points ... what's the damn point of being a squad leader?

If you do your job you don't get any reward unless all you are looking for is job satisfaction.

As a bonus, you get crapped on by the squad members when you don't rambo in to revive them after they get killed by a tank.

I wish that there was some way to reward squad leaders for doing their job.

Agreed.

The squad leader should get 1 pt every time one of his members caps a flag...or something like that.

You are correct.. a good squad leader stays away from action now or else the squad gets dissolved. They should be rewarded command points for capping/defending flags now, but it would have to be exploit proof.

It might actually encourage people to think a little more about teamplay if something like this was implemented... Not a bad idea in principle, although quite how to best go about implementing it I have no idea! Lol

I like this idea. I also think that if you get the most points on the server as a class ie medic, support and the like. Instead of just being listed on the higest score for that kit I think it would be nice to recieve a medal. Each class would have one.

Hmm... okay, many people might like the chance of some new medals, but... surely that would make people want to stick to one kit all round (to get a better chance of having the top score with that kit) rather than swap to what kit is needed by the squad at the time?

It's already hard enough to get medic fans to swap to spec ops or AT when enemy armour roles in - you don't want to give them more reason to stick with their precious medpacks, you want to encourage them to use the most appropriate kit at any given time...

It should be simple:

Everytime a squaddie of yours captures a flag (Captures, not assists) the SL get a point. You do not get a point if you capture or assist it.

Everytime a squaddie gets a message saying they "Defended flag" the SL gets a point. Again you do not get a point if you are the one defending the flag.

Sounds exploit proof to me.

I think the only way you can convince the average pub player to hang back as SL is to give them a good reward. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of (here comes math...)......

So if there are 3 people total in the squad (including squad leader) then every point one of them gets, the SL should get 0.5 points, or in other words #points_scored/(#squadmembers-1).

If there were 6 total people in the squad. Then the squad leader should get 1/5th of a point for every point someone in his squad scores.

I'm sure this could be exploited, but at least people would have a reason to hide around all the time in a game that's supposed to be a first-person shooter, not a first-person hide-under-a-rock.

If squad leaders go those extra points then everyone would try to be squad leaders and those with fast computers (like me) who spawn in first would have an advantage as they could always be a squad leader. The first 8 people would be SLs and no one else would join a squad because they would just be giving points to the SL.

A better solution would be a bonus for the SL who has the best squad at the end of the round (like the commander 2x bonus).

SLs get rewards, a win! And noone said you have to lay down and go to sleep when you're the SL...it is one of the best ways to avoid death, yes...but everyone on the battlefield is avoiding death...Just get good cover. cover your team mates. Watch for people trying to flank your squad and kill them. Help capture flags and etc...

Bottom line, if you continue playing like this, you'll get points!

Just an opinion here guy, dont get mad. This isnt the USMC, Army, Air Force whatever ya know? Its BF2....an arcade game, that attempts to afix real life aspects INTO A GAME. Squad leaders do not need to hang back, a good squad leader fights alongside his troops. If you arent scoring points dude, then join your bros and help them out.

Although rewards for squad leaders would be nice, i have around 200 hours as a squad leader myself, but its doubtful to see.
