Group 89 for me...EA has ruined vanilla, so I'm completely into creating and playing mods now :)

Hmm... that sounds like group one to me... "I'm never playing BF2 again because it's been ruined!"

Group 17: I'm off playing CS while you guys are talking about how they should change a game instead of playing it.

                  With Patch 1.3
I am now a raging whiner......Perhaps once upon a time in BF2....The Jets were far too uber and invincible but these times have gone most certainly since 1.2 patch. However, with 1.3. patch the Jets are now mince...

My fav aspect of this game is undoubtedly flyingh the jets.....this now has been ruined. No doubt this fact will attract applause from many but let me tell you this....Cos I am already good in the jets and am accustomed to getting top scores when I get a good run in the Jet, I will continue to be able to be semi effective in the jets....but anyone who is not already very good in the jets then they can now forget ever being good in them cos as soon as they go up and fly over a hotspot or two they will be right back down and respawning amongst the 6-7 highly competitive TEam Killing Jet whoring Jet Blocking TK punishing rats at the airfield or carrier.

If you aint already competent in the Jets....then thanks to 1.3, u probably never will be!

Re: 3 Groups making up the BF2 community

Personally, I think there should be yet another group added to the mix.

                    The Purist/Conservative
This group of people clings to the idea that the game has changed so much during the patch development timeline that it is no longer the same game. They would sooner stick with what the developers had initially released rather than the numerous nerfs that have been forced upon the community. They scoff at the fact that the developers felt the need to water down the game to make it more accessible to new players because they feel that they earned their ranks and rewards. They took the time to learn and perfect certain game mechanics or vehicles and are frustrated that the time they invested is now worthless since a new player can achieve the same performance without countless hours of practice.

These are also the gamers that write lengthy tutorials or record educational videos to help others achieve the same results. Players like PlaneWhore come to mind when I think about how many people adopted his flight methodology after he released a video of him flying an entire round at Gulf of Oman in an F-35B.

I don't know about you, but I feel that I am part of the above category. I, along with a multitude of other players (probably, anyway), feel that the nerfing of jets/choppers/jumping while shooting/etc. has completely changed the game in a negative fashion and is now just a shadow of its former self.

For example, we pride ourselves in being able to sneak behind enemy jets and take them out with ease and scoff at the pilots who resort to missile spam to shoot down their opponents. We never had problems taking out enemy jets before and can't understand why players did not simply invest the time necessary to learn how to use the weapons that we had to do so pre-patch 1.2.

I'm in the I don't play much anymore but whenever I do, I play the more optimized demo. group. I also hold a membership in the I mostly don't get into arguments over issues within the game, but point out and laugh at how the first and second group carry themselves from an intellectual standpoint. Also known as the I'm a **** group.

At the very beginning....The Aerial firepower was waayyy to uber. Now....Jets are getting pretty ineffectual. I think with 1.2, they were still very effective but not so now.

Resorting to Missile Spam? MISSILE SPAM? Do you fly in rear view when getting tailed by another jet? Do you see how the alledged "heat seeking missiles" just swerve off in another direction at the last millisecond before impact with your jet (unless you are in F35 which is a magnet for them). The only way to take down another jet is too effectively empty your load on him at the right moment......at least 2 of the 5 missiles should hit him if you time it right.

The The Purist/Conservative groups sounds to have a slight touch of the I pwn hard in Desert Combat chopper physics (aka realistic physics loler) group.

If you are referring to the missile dodging capabilities of the J-10, F-18, SU-34, and EuroFighter, yes. The only sure way to kill one of those with missiles is to "missile spam". With that said, however, I generally only ever fly the F-35 and Mig-29. Neither of these jets possess this characteristic. I much prefer shooting down my targets either with the cannon only or a mixture of cannon and missiles. Spamming the missile fire button in hopes of getting a kill is just "noobish" in my book.

Assuming you flew pre-patch 1.2, you'll likely remember about the only effective way to down another jet was to pursue him with the bomb HUD, get right behind him, switch to missile HUD, gain lock and fire away. Flares were useless in such a situation. This required the attacker to actually be skilled enough to stay on their target's tail. Post 1.2, the only skill required was to get close enough behind to gain a missile lock.

After I learned what was effective and what was not pre-1.2, I rarely had trouble killing airborne targets.

Mix of all 3, i have my complaints. Not so much a whine but constructive criticism and ideas for the game. Then i move on tot he stage where i tell them to adapt to any made changes and get used to it. Then i give up and don't care when they don't listen.
