"Nerf down jets"? How exactly? They're already "nerfed" by being really easy to fly. If you mean increase the skill level required to fly jets, find targets and deploy weapons, then yes, I'd be fine with that.

Excellent insight - the most obvious and overlooked one I've seen
It's true but if that were brought into the game we would have what - one air vehicle per 100 tickets or more?
We have to work with the current system but I can't fault your logic

I say let the jets keep their firepower, but make them a lot harder to fly.

hmmm I have to disagree, and this is as someone that rarely flies, but spends ALOT of time in mobile and static AA.

Last night on wake I sat in the static AA by the south base, and my friend was in a JSF. Those J-10s never stood a chance, I was even lucky enough that they weren't that smart and tried to bomb me, with the trees ruining that plan. Hell sometimes you even have to just get out of the static AA. I know when I'm in a attack chopper, thats what I hit first, I imagine most planes do the same thing, but with them if you hop out, and then hop back in you can get a missle off as they fly away. with choppers it can be a little harder if they have a good gunner.

As for mobile, it's TOTALLY fine. fushe, daqing, dragon valley, kubra dam, all have great places for AA to nestle in and actually dominate the air space. Zatar is a little tricky since it's so open, but with enough support, you can do the same thing, though I wouldn't nestle as much.

Pilots that are getting these high scores are much like anyone else thats getting high scores, but yes usually not as good a K/d ratio. But it's the same idea, when I'm in armour, I don't go running in head first to a armour fight, I pick and choose those battles, if I'm in trouble I get the hell out. thats why I prefer the APC. If your in a infantry battle and there might be one guy you can kill, but there are 5 of his friends around him, do it quick or wait for support/distraction.

I've gotten tons of top finishes, as armour, AA, or on foot. I've seen Assualt, support, and AT guys get 2/1 ratios and finish in the top 3, even on airplane maps. It helps when you play with people you know, or atleast people using the voice. And don't run in head first to fights, thats what alot of these pilots are doing, playing it smart, because now they do get shot down easily enough, TRUST ME, EVEN J-10s. However if they adjust their tactics when a good AA person is around, they might even have to LAND the plane for repairs, or do a ton of loops, they'll survive, and keep their deaths down, to then go kill at full health.

The only thing that needs changing is J-10s vs JSFs.

I voted No, however they need to increase the range and damage of the AA so as not to get blown away by cannon fire and bombs before you can even get a lock.

You are never safe from a good pilot in an AA vehicle, if my ground radar picks you up, wherever you are, you can kiss you ass goodbye.

                  Voted yes.

If your against a good pilot, you can forget trying to shoot him down in an AA turret, as he has either already destroyed them, or is waiting for you to get in and kill you. All you can hope is that the pilot on your team is able to down him, otherwise, forget it.

                    Re: Nerf down planes?

I would like to see that, cause I've been roughed up by pilots plenty of times, and on those AA friendly maps, I don't even sweat when a plane is comming at me, a few trees, or a shed to run into and I'm fine. It's all about being able to move perpendicularly to where the planes should be comming from, cause planes are only good at straight fast lines. And if it does rough you up, SWITCH spots, cause it will most likely come back for you, I ain't dumb man. It also helps when your on voice with your own planes, and they bring planes to you to shoot down.

I've been able to shoot down planes since RELEASE, sure it was hard as hell back then, but it was doable. 1.2 just made it easier for me, hell at first I thought they were over powered, now I think it's a good balance. and my over 2/1 ratio in air defense should be a testement to that. Alot of those are plane, even fighters, even the J-10. I do have over 400 deaths in AA, but with well over 1000 kills, I gotta be doing something right.

Apostle- Like I said before, sometimes you gotta wait untill a plane is passing the AA to jump in and shoot it as it's leaving. if they spend to much time destroying every AA peice, their bound to get a plane on their ass.

                      Re: Nerf down planes?

I don't like the fact that they are virtually untouchable for the average player, who can take down everything else with relative ease. I have shot down tons of choppers, blown the treads off numerous tanks, but always seem to get blown to bits by jets. I went up in one to get my aviators badge, and a few other times because nobody else was using them, and I can say that I have only been taken down by another jet or by ploughing into the dirt.

If my skills are poor at taking them down, I can live with that. I don't see many others having much luck in the servers I play on so I know I'm not alone. Maybe stronger AA would be better, and I like the idea that jets could have to touch down on the runway to repair/rearm. Maybe suggest that the pilots do not get a visual warning that a fixed AA is occupied, only a sound warning when missiles are launched. I don't believe they should be nerfed much that would affect flying or weapons as it would annoy too many people, if you turn the nerf screw too tight players will find something else to play.

Yes, the sense of scale is the biggest problem.

Imagine if and when games will be able to have 1,000 troops on each side, all on one map. Incredible.

Of course, 800 of them will be waiting for planes and helos.

Another thought: Maybe they should insert some velvet ropes and poles near the air vehicle spawn points. Then everyone would know who's next in line. Not very realistic, but neither is five soldiers standing around a helo pad in the middle of a friggin' war.

                        My suggestions:
                        1) Leave the power of the planes alone. Planes should be deadly.
                        2) Increase the number of mobile AA or increase the power of fixed AA.
                        3) Increase the fly zones so the planes can maneuver better. The maps could be vastly increased in size but the actual space that people could travel on the ground would remain small. The out-of-bounds limit could only be used for people that were within 5 feet of the actual ground OR for people who are not in an air vehicle.

                          LOL, so true.

I think there should be a sort-of pilot class, and before the game has begun players claim those spots available, like the commander before the game begins in BF2. Then, being as they are the only players that may enter and fly planes, helicopters, everyone else can get on with the game rather than hanging around for said vehicles. Not perfect, but it's only an idea.

The problem is the stupid jet pilots zip off to start their harvest of points and forget about the rest of us. Then there's the solo idiot that takes a BH to a flag and bails out and the BH goes into hover mode for 5 minutes (fixed in patch 1.3). The Cobra guys are typically useful but still don't quite understand that they exist only to support the advancement of the ground forces. The problem is with people and the programmers can't fix that.

Reminds me of the old days flying jets but my leet flighstick 'Sidewinder' is broken now and doesn't get made anymore. I got now this saitek one that doesn't get used lol.

Anyway I always love helping out people with jets, cos you got the fast speed to quickly get at the scene. The satisfaction of saving that guy's life was better then the kill itself. Unless it was a very nice kill
It's the dogfighting that was cool. I would like play for hours chasing jets in DC.

But yes in Wake it's vital that jets help the BH escort plus an additional Cobra.
Perhaps then you even have a chance against the J-10. Kill it with tactics, wait till it goes for it target and attack it.
Also good to stay high in the sky and scan the area for the J-10.

Man, I really need to pick up flying again.
The only thing I would find very neat is a 'skill' for getting lock-ons. They should make the area for lock-on smaller so it's difficult to get lock-on. You would need to track the target more carefully. This won't be that hard from stationary AA as the real edge will be in dogfighting. You could like make manouvers to outrun the lock-on. This will make the dogfighting more intense and jets will be more busy taking on eachother instead of pwning the ground.
I also think that guns should be more deadly. Jets should get killed by cannon fire, now it's virtually impossible. Also don't seem to hit jets when they're banking. No matter what angle I use or leading of shots I do,they won't register
Was dissapointed to see that lock-on is nothing but point and shoot. Expected to be more top gun like lol. I really hated the 'shoot and forget' heat missiles in bfv and was anticipating that lock-on feature in BF2 but it's just eye candy and introduced flares.
