Re: Flying... I just dont get it.

    NatureBoy_Wooo's jet tricks:

The jet is the most awesome piece of death and destruction in BF2
Here are a few tips for noobs from my experience

    1. Fly High... Very very high.. You can barely see the ground.
    • The higher you are, the chances of an enemy pilot detecting you is remote. When you are way up there you can still see the enemy jets flying under you. When you see an enemy pilot crossing below you, simply swoop in behind him and take him out. It is too late for him.
    • Never fire a missle unless you get a good missle lock tone. Wait for the enemy to use their flares and get a good lock again before you fire. If you can keep a lock, two missles should take him out.
    • When you are high it is the best opportunity to take out ground targets with the highest accuracy. Simply spot the target and do a straight dive bomb on to the target. release the bombs right before it is to late for you to pull out of the dive. Dead! Dead! Dead! Sometimes when you get lucky enough to encounter a squad, you will kill 5 or 6 of them with one load of bombs.
    2. Always lead your target.
    • When using guns (which are quite powerful) fly steady, anticipate the moves of your target and lead him. this can be quite tricky at first. Watch out for good enemy pilots that lead you right into a cliffside or big smokestack.
    3. Watch UAV and listen to people spotting targets. Use your HUD.
    • This will ensure that you get as many kills as possible per round. It will also prevent you from bombing a target with 12 of your teammates there trying to capture the flag. Next thing you know, your score is -48.. and that is if they do not punish you.
I may add more later. I am too drunk right now to think.

P.S. I am a pretty good pilot. I usually get 15-40 kills per round in a jet, depending on the situation. Just remember - There are always pilots way better than you. When I run into a good pilot and have been shot down 5 times in 5 minutes, I get the F out of the plane and start playing something else. Know your limitations.

    Hope this helps.

turn your sensitivity up if the jet feels too slow to you.

Yes, you're right. I'm full of sh!t. But yeah I'm pretty damn good. So why is it that I cant stay alive for longer than 30 seconds in a jet or attack chopper? I spent hours practicing on private local servers, tweeked my joy stick endlessly to get just the right sensitivity, practiced all manner of aerial manuvers and can do barrel rolls and loop the loops in choppers. I can stop on a dime and hover perfectly to line up that TV shot...

Oh hell, you get the idea. So why is it that I shoot the crap out of anything that flies with AA, .50 cal, APCs, whatever I can get. But rarely do I get to bring one down.

But for some strange reason, I get into a chopper or a plane and can get off the ground and fly one quick lap around the map, maybe even get some bombs dropped or some rockets fired and then BOOM. dead.

I have tried every common sense tactic in the book, avoid flags with AA emplacements or where AA vehicles spawn, I dont just waste flares the second somebody locks onto me. I jink, I juke, I jive. I hide behind buildings and mountains. I fly back for repairs whenever possible. I keep a close eye on my map. I communicate with copilots. So WTF am I doing wrong?

Dont even get me started on dogfighting. I have heard that certain jets have better turining capabilities than others. So why do I always seem to be in the one that turns like a morbidly obese beached whale?

And bombing? I'm clueless. Everyone else seems like they can casually ricochet the bombs off the enemy flag pole like its nothing. Me? I fly over an enemy flag where I know enemies are bound to be and end up feeling lucky that I didn't TK any of my buddies.

Does anybody else feel like this?

Off-topic and inflammatory comment. Admin, please punish accordingly.

Don't knock the guy if you're not going to read the entire OP. He says he's good on the ground, but sucks it the air, so that is why he's asking for advice. If you're not going to provide advice, why hit the reply button? I swear, some people talk just to hear their own voice (or read their own words).

As for Govedob, hahahahah. My stats are embarrassing. I was really bad at BF2 for a long time and almost gave up. But, I worked hard and busted my ass to learn and have gotten pretty decent for my rank. My in game tag is SLV0248 if your really want to have a good laugh. As for my death streak in there that reads "32"... I dont know what the hell happened there. Maybe I was drunk that night or something.
if you feel that you are always stuck in a bad jet, stop play USMC.

Hes never going to learn in a J10 or MIG29....the F35 is the best way to learn, once you are decent in that all other jets are mastered.

Re: Flying... I just dont get it.

I'm personally a Joystick pilot in both vehicles. It's whatever works for you. Some of my tips for choppers are:
You don't need to fly 2 inches away from the water to avoid stuff.
Your TV missiles have a better distance than AA.
I take out AA emplacements before they're even occupied when possible.
Humvees and Vodniks are your worst nightmare, keep them down.
Learn every map like the back of your hand. You should know where every vodnik, AA, and chopper is at all times.
Loops in choppers are worthless and a waste of time. Unless very special circumstances arise, avoid them.
Always have altitude on your opponenets.
I avoid flying with a crappy gunner, no need to waste that extra ticket when the AA he was supposed to kill gets us.
                      Prioritize your targets.

Fly with me sometime. Yesterday I was gunning for this idiot on Sharqi in the god chopper(Mi28). He acted as if I wasn't even in the chopper, and crashed at least 4 or 5 times. I said to him "Hey man, next round mind if I teach you how to fly and let your gunner get kills". I flew him to 84 straight kills without myself getting a single kill. Although at the end of the round that unappreciative ass said "I didn't notice anything you did differently". Typical BF2 player, I just got him the best score and killstreak he will ever have and he's still a jerk. Note: I'm not bragging about piloting him to that many kills, the Mi28 is overpowered, but believe me, only about 9 of those kills were camping on the TV station.

On a side note, feel free to practice in pubs, but if someone is waiting for the jet or chopper who you assume is better than you, mind just letting them have it? It gets old seeing some random guy take the first J10, stay up all round(because it's a J10, not because he's good) and ammounting 7 kills total.

In poker, table selection is very important. Same with choosing BF2 servers. I have recently started flying jets after 350+ hours playing BF2. If you play servers that are 24/7 Wake or Oman your likely to get owned because that's usually where the best pilots like to play. I don't last 2 min in these servers but on servers that rotate maps and I do much better. I have been on many servers where there have been 40+ people on it and yet planes are sitting unused on the carrier or airbase.

After about 180 hours of mainly ground play I've managed to learn how to bomb... I dunno how it came to be but after being bored once and trying Single Player Operation Cleansweep I bombed a load of AI several times and managed to hit consistently (I'd had never had a clue how to bomb before after many tries). Excitedly, I then went onto an empty Gulf of Oman server (made my own local server) and just picked random apcs and tanks around the map to bomb with all different jets on the maps. This has got me far better at bombing, but I still can't dogfight to save my life. :P
