I know no-one that doesn't enocounter lag in that situation with that size server population.

I do, however, get a better average FPS in vanilla than SF (approx 70 vs. 50).
Generally I don't get lag, I get a little whilst loading up on Warlord, My system is somewhat lower than yours, and in my experiences most people get lower FPS in SF than vanilla. Its a biotch.

Yeah, I read what you said. I was just saying to others reading that it's not necessary to go as all-out as you have to remove lag issues in BF2 / SF. I know why you've thrown as much at your rig as you have, I was saying that if a guy's aim is to lose the lag from BF2 / SF, it wasn't necessary to match your system specs.

I am running at all high, except lighting is at medium, 2xAA.

I have yet to see an Iron Gator at 64 players, so i cant say, But I have played with about 32 to 40 players and no lag...about the only stutter is if I'm below decks in the hanger while a chopper is blowing the CRAP out of the inside of the ship, and like I said, only a hiccup or two. That's why I'm always perplexed at people's complaints about SF being coded bad or unplayable. I mean, I love the night maps, the images are crisp and clear and a new dimension to the game-play. Iron Gator and Warlord are my 2 favorite maps though...very intense action the whole time.

To be honest, the only problem I have with the whole BF2/SF is that every time a patch comes out, I have to uninstall the whole darn game and patch it then, otherwise I get the darn "patching failed", "modified content" crap.

Most of the people with above average rigs, complaining about lag, are playing on full 64-player servers. That's where the SF lag is worst, especially Iron Gate and also the Warlord palace.

You should try a full 64-session on Iron Gator once, and see how it runs.

          Well, appaerently Gav doesn't;

Please elaborate Gav, do you not even lag on full 64-player Iron Gator sessions? Do you play on smaller servers?

I'm running everything on high, 1280x960@100Hz w/ 4xAA and 16xAF. Even if I put my settings at Medium, Iron Gator kills my performance.

@Cybercrow; I used to run 8xAA in the nVidia cpanel too, however I changed it to "program controlled" or whatever it's called and set the in-game AA to 4x (which is the highest setting in BF2). Believe it or not, it looks better! You should give it a try since we have somewhat similar gfx cards.
yeah m8 i can honestly say i get no lag even on a 64 player map (any map)
the only time i used to get lag was when i had 2xgig of memory in,
i have 4 gig in now with a good top end pc an a fast connection (well fast enough for a uk line any way lol 8meg soon to be 16) an havent had any lag since i upgraded.
i very rarely have a ping over 80 even over sea servers, what youve got to rember as well is my amount of ram ie memory/graphics card ram an also the ram on my sound card hammer every fps through at an amazing rate due to how much ram there is on my hardware.
so having all the various ram on my hw an a fast line i wo'nt get any lag,
plus i tend to tweak every thing on my pc to getbest performance an visual.
even on the mad game F.E.A.R which is a stunning looking game i dont get slow down or fps loss.
but like i said before i updated to used to get lag on a regular base's

this may sound daft to some people but updating punkbuster also helps alot.

Re: Anyone else have this problem?

I'll try to find a 64-player iron Gator this weekend. But I don't expect it to change much as I have played 64-player Warlord, with a major battle in the Palace without a hitch, and everybody seems to say the Palace is a lag-grinder for them.
