    Anyone else have this problem?

When playing SF, the game lags a lot. BF2 vanilla doesn't have lag.

For example, if i were to run and then go prone, it sort of jerks and sometimes makes my dude stand back up without me even pushing the button.

It's like i have really crazy lag, but my ping stays at only 25ms.

I tried switching to the lowest settings, but it's still the same. Is SF supposed to be slower than the original BF2?

I'm using a Radeon X600 with the latest catalyst drivers with all settings on medium. but i have dynamic lighting, shadows and AA turned off.

I never experience this type of thing on any BF2 map. It's only SF.

    This happen to anyone else?

If SF requires more RAM than vanilla, then there's my answer to my problems. I only have 1GB RAM.

    Thanks for any help :)

Re: Anyone else have this problem?

When I went up to 2 gig from 1.5 gig I found I got onto the server faster and didnt suffer any entry lag/stuttering at all. Worth the upgrade :)

I figured that would be the case. Looks like i'll have to get another 1GB stick!!

          Thanks

I have 2megs of memory and a new card (7800 oc ) and still get lag. I would try smaller maps.

I have 2GB dual channel ram 2 bfg6600gt oc cards in sli and I still lag in SF even when set at medium. Sucks huge as I like the maps and gameplay but get frustrated and return to vanilla as it is way smother.

In vanilla I get 50 - 55fps, in SF I get 20fps. Suks huge balls!!

You guys are gunna hate me, but here goes:

I really never have any lag other than the normal lag at the begining of a round...NEVER. Here is my very modest system:

                  Sempron 64 3100+ (small o/c)
                  BIOSTAR NF4 4X-A7 Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce4 4X ATX AMD
                  (using on-board sound)
1GB ram made up of, get this, 512mb of ddr333 and 512mb of ddr400
120gb Caviar by WD, 8ms seek, IDE
                  Gigabyte 6800GS PCI-E (moderate o/c)
                  19" LCD 8ms

I fly, shoot, jump, knife, boat, everything fine, even nightmaps. Even the Palace does not give me any problems, unless it is the initial spawn, like I said.

Let the biatching and moaning begin!

BadToad: That's some pretty amazing stuff. Smooth gameplay for those specs? What settings are you running?

I don't know about anyone else, but i think they should try and optimize SF a little in the next patch or something.

I don't get how it could lag with the guy above's high end system. :hmm:

You don't even need that much overkill. I run a Athlon 64 3700+ with 2GB dual channel RAM and a 7800 GT - a reasonable rig, but not as shiny as some posted here. I run BF2 at 1280 x 1024 with all the settings on high and 4x AA and I never lag, not even the "usual" start-of-the-round stuff, and not on any map, vanilla or SF. I've heard people saying that SF is bad for it, and that Iron Gator is the worst of them all, but I've never had any problems running this rig.

I don't know why I can do it and those with higher specs than me can't, but it can be done. I presume it's not something silly like defragging hard drives or having lots of background tasks running in Windows etc...?

the reason for my over kill is like i said dude i do alot of pc work an need the resources.
plus with new games comin i dont fancy goin out buying a game only to find when i install it,it runs like a bog of spuds lol.
im what you call a serial upgrader aswell lol.

Can you honestly say that you're not even lagging on a 64-player Iron Gator server, inside the carrier when the MEC has started taking flags?

I don't lag in SF either, but I've got a pretty good system (sig). However, on Iron Gator, I get around 19-25 FPS in a lot of areas. That map is just very very unoptimized.
I do, however, get a better average FPS in vanilla than SF (approx 70 vs. 50).

I'm running everything on high, 1280x960@100Hz w/ 4xAA and 16xAF. Even if I put my settings at Medium, Iron Gator kills my performance.

@Cybercrow; I used to run 8xAA in the nVidia cpanel too, however I changed it to "program controlled" or whatever it's called and set the in-game AA to 4x (which is the highest setting in BF2). Believe it or not, it looks better! You should give it a try since we have somewhat similar gfx cards.
