I don't see how anyone could think a licensing system would ruin the game: it would simply be a part of the overall experience.

Yes, yes it would alienate jack ****. The people new to the game would not be pleased, and those of us who don't constantly use vehicles would be alienated. I bought the same game as you for the same price so you're not entitled to dictate who can and can't use vehicles.

Anyway, assuming that this doesn't alienate anyone....what is your version of the licensing test? Unless it's something basic like taking off and landing that can be practiced in single player, how is anyone going to practice doing it, if they aren't allowed to do it in the game? It definitely couldn't be dogfighting or lining up TV shots because that is realistically only stuff that happens in mulitplayer.

The bottom line is nobody has any more right to a chopper, or any other vehicle for that matter, than anybody else.

I guarantee the folks crying for this license nonsense weren't any better than the "noobs" that are learning to fly now when the people praising this idea first started. Nobody :cussing: at you then that you needed a license and it's silly to try and throw one in now because you think you're hot stuff and don't want to find a different server or wait your turn.

I personally think this would be a wonderful idea but too many idiots would say, "OMG! BF2 IS THE SUCK! I CAN GET AMERICAS ARMY FOR FREE!!! OMGWTF!!!"

Your lack of imagination and creativity is apparent.

Just to give you an example of what a basic gunner certification could look like: a scripted computer pilot flies off from carrier and stops to a hover in front of a building with one stationary soldier on it. At this point, the voice-over instructs you to press your left-mouse button to shoot him. Once successful, the computer begins strafing left-right or clock/counterclock-wise and you do the same. Finally, the computer goes through a semi-random motion...

Following this, while the computer pilot flies back to rearm, your voice-over instructs you on how to use the TV. Then, your pilot takes you to a field with a tank or whatever you want and goes to a hover. More voice-over instructions followed by your shot(s). Proceed with more complexity until test is complete...

I mean, is this so hard to imagine and create ? I swear I should work for these game developers because it doesn't look like they put much thought into their game(s).

It's not hard to imagine something like what you describe, but that takes no skill. It's like how the first level of a lot of FPS games is the tutorial. Press W to walk forward, kind of stuff. Everyone will do that with no problem, but it doesn't mean that everyone will be good at the game. Everyone will do those little tests and then we'll be right where we are now; some people are better than others, but nobody has patience for those with less skill level. The best thing to do is try and join the squad with the struggling pilot or gunner and give them pointers over VoIP. I've had several people do this for me and I've improved a lot even though I only have like 9 hours of helo time. I'm no ace, but I do alright (still have plenty to learn though).

Like I said before, you're taking this game way too seriously if you get mad about losing a round, ever. The reason you lost was probably infantry running to their deaths over and over again, not a pilot that couldn't fly. Calm down and take a break or something.

It would be nowhere near as simple as my/your description, Nerd. This is a simple forum post to give you a clearer idea of what could be scripted to test potential pilots and gunners. Additionally, if you care to look at some of my earlier posts in this thread, you will see that my system involves several different qualification tests to better differentiate between skill levels: how hard do you think the "TOP pilot qualification" would be compared to the basic one ? ^.^

Just went back and read, I had missed that post. Bottom line, I think this game is meant to be arcade action, not simulation. Is it annoying to see someone drive a tank over a clearly visible mine or pilot a chopper/jet so horribly that they get swatted out of the sky, yes it is. Do I think the developer should step in and "fix" this? Obviously I don't.

IF this ever were to come about, I would hope that EA/Dice would have the sense to have it present from the very beginning of the game to make it a level playing field. IF it came in this new patch, everyone who's got 400 hours in the chopper would pass easily because of all their experience while everyone else would be screwed.

Don't take that as me agreeing with a licensing system of any kind, but if they thought it would fix gameplay and decided to do it then I think that's the only fair way to implement it.
