256mb video RAM is fine to run the game maxed. I think any of the 7800s and x1800s equivilants or better can run it maxed out with no problem. Ive only worked with a 7800 for this game so I could be wrong.

Edit* Ill put in another vote for 2gb system RAM. The game is smooth as silk with 2 gigs, when I was using one it was a little choppy especially in SF.

The BEST setup you can do is any dual PCI-Express or Crossfire motherboard that uses two video cards. You'll need the motherboard, two awesome video cards (256MB minimum, but there are now 512MB cards), enough power to sustain them, and adequate cooling. That will be uber for any gaming application (read: you can run any game on the highest settings).

Well, speaking for myself I have played it with two cards. I began playing with a Radeon X800XT PE with everything on hihg and 2x AA running at 1024x768 and it looked great.

I now use a Radeon X1900XTX running at 1280x1024 6xAA and Ultra High settings and it looks incredible.

Some of the game "look" and "feel" is derived from more than just your video card. Netspeed, Memory and CPU play a big part. Having a great video card does nothing for you if your CPU is the bottleneck.

I am not ATI or NVidia. I have played on and owned both.

I love ATI..... their driver support is monthly and it's awesome!

Already May and they've had 4 or 5 driver updates with one more coming soon.

hmm..? as a nvidia man myself its a pain in the neck to keep updating the drivers im glad nvidia dont do it monthly.

why do ati make a new driver everymonth??

Portions of the update are for new games and or issues that have crept up in the last month. ATI usually includes a list of changes/tweaks when you go looking for the new drivers.

I belevie Nvidia cards outshine ATI cards in BF2. So, my list would be was follows.

1.7900 GTX 512mb
2.x1900xt 512mb
2.7900 GT 256mb

Those are probably about the best on the market now in terms of gaming, so, I would "assume" they have the best performance for BF2. The 7900GT is the best "bang for your buck". The performance gap between it and it's beefed up cousin (7900GTX) is about 5-10% frames at standard resolutions (1024x768, 1280x1024); nothing you would notice.

...and it's about 150$ cheaper. Cheaper is always better, especially with Vista on the horizon and random talks about "compatibility issues".

I would stay away from the x1800 family. It's utter crap in "performance to price" ratio. If you're going to attack at that angle, you would be better off with an X800 or X850. The performance gap between the two families is very small.

In BF2 i dont know out of the 7900 GTX 1900XTX or the 7900 GT/1900 XT but thos are the best 3/4 cards out atm. In benchmarks the 1900 XTX beats the 7900 GTX. SO u dicide. I love ATI and i have had both brands.

We discussed in two recent thread: it depends of your resolution, and if you're on LCD you're almosto "forced", if you won't scaling or reducing visible size. My situation: i own a 1920x1600 native resolution monitor, and doesn't exists ANY consumer pc capable of running BF2 with everything turned on (game options and maximizing gfx driver settings: AA8xs/AF16x...). An FX60 with SLI 2*7900GTX 512 are not "enough". Does it sounds incredible? I thought it too.. i understand that 1920x1200 isn't a so popular resolution for gaming, but i doesn't understand that i cannot run it with everything turned on, even spending money buying "the best". Maybe the solution is liquid cooling and overclocking pumping everythig up... but that's not the point.

I run 2 gigs of ram a 6800 GS, no AA, but full settings other than that.
