ea did it for bf1942

the added like 6 new maps through patches that included new vehicles and other stuff.


coral sea was "destroy the other guys carrier before he destroys yours"

battle of britain was also released in a patch and include a neat new aircraft.

Battle of the phillipenes was released in a patch and include a slew of new stuff.

not sure why they changed.

Could you imagine Battle of the Phillipenes with the BF2 engine?

Hell, it kicked ass in that BF1942 mod EA put out for BFV. I actually played that a lot, it was fun. I liked how you could play the BF42 theme from the vehicles.

I'm wondering.... EA has made gobs of cash from the BF Franchise and I dont recall a single freebie coming for anything BF2 related... would a free booster pack be something you think EA would even consider?

Other games do it sometimes, Unreal Tournament had booster packs that included all sorts of things from new weapons and vehicles to new maps and game modes... Would a couple new maps and a couple new vehicles ever be something you think EA would give away as a sign of good faith toward their loyal community?

I don't see why not. After all EA's goal is not to make money, but to make sure that everybody is happy with free stuff.

Yep... Microsoft is the exact same way. So is GMC, Ford, and every other American Auto Maker.

It's that brand of "quality" and "customer satisfaction" that has kept them so darn competitive.

It's important to note that when BF1942 was released, Dice was an independant developer and EA was their publisher. EA has since aquired Dice and now owns them outright. Thus, EA's board members get to set policy instead of the geek-devs who got into the industry for the love of the game.

It's a sad trend, but one that will continue.

Only if EA was bought out by Ubisoft or Activision, companies that actually care about their customers

I could see a free booster coming out only if 2142 ran into a significant delay and they needed to keep the BF2 community around and interested longer. Otherwise no, it cost a lot of real dollars (rent, payroll, equipment) to make it and they are a for profit company that wants to stay in business.

i dont see how EA/DICE could possibly release a map pack for vanilla and charge for it....that would be even more splitting of the communities...servers go empty when the purchased maps come up in rotation.....EF lesson learned? otherwise i would have paid for a map-pack of about 5-10 new ranked maps......but since that seems unlikely for vanilla bf2, i dont see why/how they could release more maps for us if we have to pay, unless it is a completely new exansion, which i dont want to pay for.....i dont think we should have to basically buy a new game for new maps......i dont think EA will release any free content unless they wise up..

Dice/EA have employees they need to pay. There is a huge community making free stuff.

EA should accept content from the community, either freely, or in a contest...its as easy as "all content submitted becomes property of EA, and may be edited/modified without notice"......so they can test for balance/glitches, and modify them in any way that is needed.....then they can take the 10 best, or whatever wins the contest, and release it with a future patch.....

sounds simple......it also sounds like a nice way for the community, and EA to do something fun together :laugh: would be a great "PR song and dance" for EA too :p
