Need help. How do i get rid of Mouse Accel?

I just purchased this game, tried out the single player.. but noticed i have mouse acceleration on.

I checked my mouse setting outside of game, and its off.

I checked IN game.. and couldnt find anywhere that allows me to mark off that i dont want mouse acceleration.

This makes it very hard to aim properly with quick movements AND when flying choppers etc.

Can anyone fill me in with details as to how to turn it off? Thanks in advance.

what's mouse accel? You mean your cursor delays after moving your mouse?

thats usually caused by your graphics set too high. also - make sure audio is being rendered by hardware - so the game doesn't have to render the audio.

btw - welcome to the battlefield.

Mouse acceleration is when your mouse moves to the speed of your hand..

A way to judge if you have it on.. is place the cursor on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Then VERY slowly move the mouse to the left till you get to the left bottom side of the screen. Now.. if you move your mouse VERY FAST back to where you started.. you should be exactly back at where you began.... but with mouse acceleration ON.. your not. Youll be WAY before where you started.

This means that in a fire fight.. if you quickly move your mouse to aim and shoot someone.. your aimer isnt always the same speed.. and therefore you cant judge it with 100% accuracy.

This was a common flaw with players who player CS with mouse acceleration ON.

        You mean sensitivity settings?
You can adjust sensitivity for every different "mode" (vehicle, helo, plane,...) in the controls.

          No he means mouse acceleration.

Check if your settings has a game specified control panel (my logitech mouse one does, changes the buttons for different programs)

Re: Need help. How do i get rid of Mouse Accel?

I checked my mx 500 settings and there is no games list or anything that would point out that the acceleration would be any diffrent between programs.

Im still looking for someone who may know how to turn it off.

In CS you could go in and edit the .cfg file. Is it possible to do this in BF 2 as well? I know that if i find a file named mouse accel_1 or something.. all id have to do is change it to a 0. Thing is.. i dont know what gets you banned in this game when you play on punkbuster and ranked servers. I dont wanna risk getting kicked or banned for no reason on servers....

              Any other ideas???

p.s. Thanks for those who have responded already

Re: Need help. How do i get rid of Mouse Accel?

when in doubt - google it out!

wee i googled it and got this

                Mouse Acceleration in XP

                Permanent Acceleration Fix

It seems that even without pointer precision disabled, the mouse under XP is still
influenced by an acceleration curve. This is especially noticeable in games. To
completely remove mouse acceleration from XP, you will need to go into the registry
and adjust the SmoothmouseXYCurve values. Here is how its done.

                1. Click Start button
                2. Select Run
                3. Type 'regedit' in the open textbox
                4. Open the tree 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER', select control panel, then select mouse
                5. Right clicking, modify the SmoothMouseXCurve and SmoothMouseYCurve hexidecimal values to the following:

                SmoothMouseXCurve:
                00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
                00,a0,00,00,00,00,00,00
                00,40,01,00,00,00,00,00
                00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00
                00,00,05,00,00,00,00,00

                SmoothMouseYCurve:
                00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
                66,a6,02,00,00,00,00,00
                cd,4c,05,00,00,00,00,00
                a0,99,0a,00,00,00,00,00
                38,33,15,00,00,00,00,00

If done correctly, you will notice you are holding a markedly more responsive mouse

No problem. The BF community consider themselves soldiers, and as a soldier, it's your duty to help your fellow soldiers as much as humanly possible, even if it involves death (hopefully theres a medic around).

I haven't tried the solution, but please answer back in this thread and let me know how it worked out. Don't forget to backup your registry before making any changes.

If it works I may have to try it myself. I've been in the BF series since 2000, and never had a problem with mouse accel, but then again, I may not know what I'm missing.

                      Actually it is

                      START>CONTROL PANEL>MOUSE>POINTER OPTIONS>MOTION

You might want to doublecheck set point software and click "apply" after you disable it in there.

good warning - in my post following the solution, I warned to back up the registry, in case something disasterous happened.

I also posted the source - which was from a forum with a guy with battlefield vietnam. no one called it a disasterous change, so i posted the source and the solution.

but still - be careful with your registry.

                              here ya go

It disables XP's mouse accelleration for good.

According to the post where I found the link XP doesnt really turn off the accel when you disable it manually on yours or XP's stock drivers, it only turns it down.

So hardcore freaks figured/found? out the binary values to force it totally disabled.

The man himself Fatal1ty swears by it and has been useing it in tournements.

Its now been made the only acceptable mouse .reg tweek at the World Championships this year.

It really made a differance on w/my Mx518. This is by far the tightest mouse I've had and still made a huge differance. The cursor moves like its part of my hand now, not following it. That is the only way to discribe it.

I entered the values manually in regedit(1st time messing w/Binarys and I had it totally wrong, lucky I caught my mistake cause who knows how it would have ended up lol) before I found this *.reg file which makes it safe and easy for us non-supergeeks.

First back up your registry 2 b safe.... goto : Start, Run, type "regedit", hit ok, file, click "export", save as "backup.reg" to "My Documents" or where u can find it easy. If something goes wrong you just double click that file to restore your previous settings.

Then click this link, extract it and say yes to adding to your registry:

                              ftp://ftp.thecpl.com/mouse_fix.zip
