The AGP aperture size determines how much space on the hard drive is mapped out for the GART tables, and with a decent video card, you will never use it. If the GART table is too large, it can possibly have some negative effects.
Strange then how increasing the aperture has helped a number of ppl on this very forum even when they use 128 or 256MB cards..

It's not harddrive space that is mapped either, it's system memory. It's considered an extension of the video cards memory. It's clear that BF2 uses a lot of memory for it's textures and like I said a setting of 128 or 256MB seemes to work well.

It doesn't look any different than a 5200 on high.

Do you play on 16/32/ or 64 slot servers with that setup you got.
And what is your Vsync setting on/off?

Now is vsync with tripple buffering on a good thing? Should I turn it off?

                  I run a crt monitor at 85hz

Well I run BF2 with Vsync on. Actually I run every game with Vsync on.
I'm running my 22" IIYAMA on 100 Hz.

The problme is if I turn Vsync off, I get a hell of a lot screen tearing.
And screen tearing is the very first thing I want to get rid in every game unless I play on the Playstation 2.

The problem is, that the BF2 engine (since the patch 1.12) drops the frame really low on my system. Especially in SF im often at 15-25 frames on maps like Ghost Town 64 player when bigger fights are going on.
But also on SHarqi Peninsula when at the middle of the map (at the construction site) and there are 15+ players on screen.

But again, Vsync off just looks plain ugly.

PS: I'm only speaking of 64 player servers and that is where the real low frames are happening.
