    Uber lagg with 7800GS

Yesterday, i got my new GPU (XFXGeForce 7800GS Extreme edition AGP).
I fired up bf2, and put all the settings to high and 4x AA.

When the game started, it whent smooth, untill i tried to make a fast turn with the mouse. The game kind of freezed for 1 to 2 sec, before it came to life again.

This happens everytime i do a quick manouver. Exept from that, the game runs smooth (around 50fps).

I tried tu turn down the resolution, and turn of AA, but it didnt work...

Is it the game that is *** up, or is it the GPU?
It had no problem running Oblivion, HL2 and COD2 at ultrahigh quality...

    I have the newest driver...
I have allso tried to reinstall the game, but i still had the same problem

Does someone have a solution for this?

    My specs:
    ASUS A8V Mainboard
    XFX GeForce 7800GS eXtreme AGP
    1,5 gigabytes of RAM 400mhz
    AMD athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.4Ghz

Thanks for anny kind of help

Did you uninstall your previous card's drivers? If it was an ATI card you had before this could be a real issue. I take it everything else is up to date drivers wise?

And try a google search on "battlefield 2 optimisation guide", it could be the case of one setting being wrong

      Hi
Another thing to try is the AGP aperture size, which is found in the BIOS settings (varies by motherboard so may have to search a little). With your card it should be set to the memory size, so 256Mb (I have the Gainward 512Mb 7800GS but can only set to 256Mb on my motherboard.

      Good luck.

Forgot to ask too, is your PSU adequate for the new card and have you checked the temperature of the card when under high load?

Mu PSU is an 450Watts (Should more than enough)
The temperature flipps between 41 and 50'c

My old card was an ATI Sapphire Radeon 9600pro 256mb, so i think the memmorysize in bios thing is OK
I have uninstalled all the old ATI drivers
My nVidia drivers are allso up to date

            EDIT

            Problem solved!
I first opened dxdiag (DirectX diagnistic (?) ). The program loaded my system specs etc etc. (Idont realy know what it did, but it did the job )
Then i reinstalled BF2 again, and voila! It worked!

Thanks for all your help guys!

you vid card requires a hd dongle, correct? if so, make sure you don't have a "fan only" 4-pin connected to it.

try clearing your bf2 cache under (default) my document/bf2

AGP aperture size should NOT be set to match the memory size of the video card. The larger your video card memory, the smaller your aperture should be. With your 512mb card, you should set it to 64mb. I can almost guarantee you'll see an improvement.

how does that work? does it just make more room on ur hd or something to add to video ram? so bigger is better? (sry i dont understand how this agp aperature thing works)

and strange how just opening dxdiag fixes stuff..hm

This is a pretty good explanation...

Thanks (and apologies) - showing my ignorance as had always thought (and had been told) it was a linear upwards progression - certainly helped improve things with my previous 128Mb GT6600 though 512Mb is a different ball game.

Do you really think I would get improvement with 64Mb aperture size ? I already play all on high with 4xAA at 1280x1024 and am not aware of any slowdowns - a number of social 'spinning' knife duels last night (while waiting for a round to start) showed little/no slowdown and really helps with keeping tabs on your opponent. Don't suppose it would explain some early CTDs which seem to happen less frequently.

So if i have a 256 mb GPU, i should change the AGP aperture size to 64?

No if you have a 256 card you should set it to 256 in the bios.

Please refrain from giving people hardware advice if you don't know what you're talking about. If you have a higher memory video card (128mb or above) you DO NOT need a a large AGP aperture setting.

Yes. With 256mb of video memory, you DO NOT need to set a large AGP aperture. The AGP aperture size determines how much space on the hard drive is mapped out for the GART tables, and with a decent video card, you will never use it. If the GART table is too large, it can possibly have some negative effects.
