That's 6 freaking huge rounds ripping right through that part of your body. Even if you don't die, you definitely don't get up. Therefore, any hit from the miniguns in BF2 should be a kill. I'm sick of this sissy ridiculous unrealistic crap that Dice keeps giving us. I don't want utter realism, I want simple sensibility.
Suggestion: Rather than get all angry faced about things like this, how about making/supporting ideas/solutions?

It might not help, but then again it's more likely to than stating how stupid the people that made the game you love (despite it's issues) are.

    Oh... in a perfect world...

The only way they can have a valid and consistent ranking system is to avoid things like that. Letting server admins have control over the power of guns or the ability to bunnyhop would lead to chaos and nonsense. If things like that were up to the server admin, you'd have some asshat who would kick people for using HIS Blackhawk, and patrol the map raining pwnage on ground pounders. You'd also have people who preferred bunnyhopping and dolphin diving, and would implement THAT on a server. There would be AA that never hit on some servers, and tracks forever on other servers. There would be no consistency or predictability, or most importantly, no standardization.

As far as the topic... Debris may suppress someone, but doesn't usually cause much damage. It isn't the same as splash damage. There isn't a whole lot of exploding going on. Suppressive fire just plain doesn't work in this game. You might as well add splash damage to the LMGs. I've fired the 249, and it sprays a decent amount of lead and dirt all over the target. To a living person, it's suppressing. It WILL keep a normal soldier down. In a game with no stakes other than a 15 second wait, they just keep running and hope that the deviation will work in their favor this time. Chances are, only a couple bullets will hit them in the face, neck, and chest. They'll still live.

K... I got unlazy and found a chinese auto-grenade launcher that apparently IS often mounted on choppers:

        35mm QLZ-87 automatic grenade launcher

Belt fed, that sucker would be a balanced match to the M134, IMHO.
