i dont think the original poster/topic intended to have dice/ea add the f22 to bf2. we were trying to obtain any idea whether anyone was going to mod one... for fun? for the game?

thats what the topic was about. he never once metioned realism in this game, you brought it up. yes, there's been some off-the-offtopic discussion, but ultimately this thread was made and revived for the sake of fun, and to see the f22 fly in a mod.

btw, did you know the surreal mod has santa's sleigh instead of a chopper? and it owns....

that's what this thread was about... fun. :)

JSF shouldnt even be in BF2. If so then MEC should have SU-37

          - You are forgetting that all the AA missiles in BF2 are are IR seekers, thats why you lock onto flares burining oil towers etc.

And truth be told that is one aspect the Russians are ahead in air combat. Because radar signatures are easier to disrupt and hide the primary focus of Russian missiles has been to seek heat with, (in newer munitions) the ASSISTANCE of radar. This isn't to say their missiles will always shoot down stealth fighters, but the capabability is still there. Ultimatley in about 50 years it will all be gun combat and the need for an aircraft that is stealthy will be obsolete. After all why would you spend the extra money on plane that doesn't even have a person inside?

Back topic, there shouldn't be any need for the Raptor in BF2 anyway since the JSF is there. If the F22 were to do the things described then the F35 would be able to kill the J10 well out of visual range as would the phalanx (that's the anti aircraft system on the carrier). I'm confused as to why people wanted the harrier so bad in AF when the JSF IS the replacement and IS better than the harrier.

          end of line

Sorry had to add this becasue I see to much of it on game forums. DON'T TRY TO BRING REALISM INTO A GAME THAT INVOLVES THE U.S. MILITARY. If games involing the U.S. military were realistic than aircombat would not exist whatsoever, enemy tanks would be destroyed in one hit by our armor and the only method enemies would be able to use ON A LARGE SCALE to effectivley kill our soldiers is suicide bombing in mass groups of civilians. Do yourself a favor conentrate on making the game more entertaining and not accurate, otherwise we have Battlefield debate the should the F22 be gray or black?
          No, not really

IR seekers are good and dandy, except they usually don't have much range. The russians have no long range IR missiles, nor signifigant ECM/Jamming abilities above that of america or europe. Radar guided missiles are quite important in modern combat, even with jamming, and will stay this way for a while to come.

Though by your logic, the french would be the best prepared, with BVR IR guided missiles(Mica with IR seeker) and extensive IRST/FLIR and laser-range finder on the Rafale, allowing it to get completely silent kills at a quite good range. However, this cannot effectively replace EM seeking missiles.

As for whether it should be in, the F-22 should be the fighter, and the F-35 the fighter-bomber. But its not really important, imo. I would have prefered F-15's and F-16's instead of F-18/F-15E mix personally, but at least BF2 mixed it up a bit.

And for realistic argument, its the future. While the USAF would indeed rape, ground forces and whatnot are much more subjective. One could imagine the MEC and China getting certain upgrades for their vehicles, bringing them closer to par, etc. As for infantry, don't over-rate american infantry. They do fine against heavily bombed iraqi soldiers and insurgents, but they aren't anything special on their own. Chinese infantry are probably getting closer and closer to individual ability, as they downsize their military to a more professional force.

The best way to balance is realistically would be to simply give the US a good amount less tickets, and longer spawn times for equipment, etc. Would support the whole trying to fight multiple wars overseas, on enemy homeland thing.

            Re: F/A-22 Raptor?

What about the fact that the raptor is a practically useless weapon considering that the enemys we are actually fighting dont have a fighter that can come close to an f-15 or f-16

The f-22 is a weapon for fighting a superpower war that will never happen, and if it does happen there wont be enough left of either country for raptors to be needed.

lol i dont know why you bother writing so much raslin - its all regurgitated info to me Russian tanks use autoloaders, yes, to conserve weight - but if you knew anything you would know that all of their autoloaders since the T-64 have had a manual load function wonder why?

and no - nothing i said had anything to do with the techno bubkus you tried to relate it to. The only reason i spoke up was in regard to the reasons for soviet choices in tech - if you want to go argue nonsense save it for somone who cares. All of the other points in that section were COMPLETELY irrelevant.

This thread seems to be alot of people taking info off the net as if it is credible. have fun

quite frankly i think Piano makes the best point of all lol!

Apparently Chinese are working on their OWN new MBT to be superior to anyone elses, has an fully-automatic 125mm or maybe even a 152mm. Armour, speed, gonna be sweet me thinks. PLA usually keep this secret til release.

^^ahh the ol` x-jet. I like what Piano said, this tech is beyond the current battlefield, we are fighting a different war, than WWII.

Back on topic......Why not bring in the F-22, the j-10`s obviously have 4th gen Missiles, why not the coalition?

Money .... US is having to cut back on things they really dont ESSENTIALLY have to have, their administration is in debt, the already spend enough as it is, F22 would simply be too expensive.

I know this is a old post but I need to answere the question about emp's

Airforce and major military facilities are standalone facilities that are emp protected

and the chance of someone moving an emp (which by the way is about the size of a mini cooper) anywhere close to a military facility are close to none with all of the radars and security.

by the way f 22's are sweet

In March 2003, during a combat training flight, 1 F-22A went against 5 F-15C Eagles. During the exercise, the F-22A shot down all F-15's without being damaged.

It's one badass plane and deserves to be in atleast one mod
I agree i want to be able to fly the F22a raptor but it's main advantage, ie stealth, wouldn't be able to be recreated in BF2 beacause there are no long-range targeting systems on the jets at the moment (no BVR mode) and the maps are just not big enough to support jets like this.

p.s. i also heard it was able to shoot down 8 f 16's in a training operation without being detected.

Number 1 the f/A-22 Raptor will just be like the Euro Fighter will be obsaleet within the first couple of months of release so lets not get to excited about it. you want some good planes then get some cargo planes that people can transport and parashoot outta, that would be class. tell you what lets bring the Spitfire back because that would wipe the raptor out in a race, fuel saving energy the spitter could take its sweet time whilst the raptor was in the sea crumpled up in a heep

And if a US fighter loses its electronic systems - its done for

Its easy to say US fighters are better - its less easy to predict how they would perform if they were to fight in russian airspace.

If this was true why aren't U-2's dropping out of the sky? I'm sure it's one of the first things they'd like to see discontinue overflights.
