Ranks + unlocks..plain and simple.
And I hate to tell you but unlocks dont mean a better gun all the time.
Yes some unlocks outshine there standard counter-part, but alot of basic weapons are just as good if not better.
Only Unlocks I call a must have are the Dao and the PKM..and the PKM is merely a bit better. Sure some unlocks are great liek G36E..but the AKs rock and the M16 is great too..

start a new account and just balance the unlocks between them. that's what i did.

I too have played the game since it was released. Threatening to leave BF2 unless they noobify ranks is not doing anything for anyone, including EA. They already have your cash, so I doubt they will be concerned. The awards systems was designed to be a long term thing, but that seems to escape about 95% of the people that complain about it.
ABout 5 patches ago, they adjusted the rank and the award criteria because it truly was a difficult task to get points and unlocks. I suppose this game is not for everyone, but that will soon be changing with the content of the patches coming out lately. Back to your situation, it really sounds like you should play with friends online. You can squad up and it makes it more fun.

I don't even think about the points and ranks, I just play the game and enjoy as much as it is possible.
The only thing I don't like is when the game crashes to desktop or when the server alleges that I have a problem with my connection and drops me off. That's all

I've been playing this damn game since it came out, I only play for maximum of an hour or two hours a night due to wife and brats. I've not done bad and normally finish in the top five of a round averaging at the minute 100-150 points a session.

The problem is I'm on 13000 points, 7000 away from the next rank then the leap from that one to the next is 30000 points.

My point is this there are many people who have no life and can sit in front of the box all hours and amass thousands of points, but to us average gamers and my friends all average the same amount of hours as me, the ranks are now not acheivable. Ok so I've only got one unlock left but from that rank to the next is impossible. In the early stages it was so good getting the medals and ribbons and being the first to get the rank but now that fun has gone and it's just for hardcores.

So congratualtions to all those who have acheived high ranks at the expense of eyeballs and lifes but to us mere mortals please EA re-address the rank system or we will be off!

I care about points, rank, medals...yeah I know they're fake, I know its not something I'll wear in real life and I know that rank, especially in this game, doesn't necessarily mean that you're the s*it.

Why do I care then? It gives me something to work for. Something to strive. When I play I play serious and for fun...you can do both.

i've played since release and i've got about 11500 points to go. i figure i earn 500 points each night i play 3 times a week. that's a long time...evil ranking system...shoulda put this one closer since it has the last unlock.

I gave up on BF2 after I got my first sgt award. There was no way I was gonna try for the next rank which was a full 30k more points. I also had most of the badges/awards/unlocks too, so there was really nothing for me to play for anymore.

First sgt is really the highest rank you can hope for without resorting to points specialised combat and/or becoming a BF2 junkie. I thought I played alot, but do you realise the current points leader plays an average of 10 hours a day. 10 HOURS A DAY. 10 HOURS A DAY!!!!!!!! Now that's just insane.
I wasted about 140 hours playing the game intensivly for points. I want that time...errmm...that week back.

Seriously though, to all the BF2 junkies, what will you do when EA turn off the stats database server. They will do this sooner or later. You will either have to find a new hobby or buy EA's futuristic clone of quake 4.

I've been playing alot of guitar recently. Time much better spent imo.

well the rest of us are going to spend 10 hours a day ironing our shirts, commuting, and making other people wealthy... i would rather play video games.

seriously, I think i will quit my job, grad school, and wife when the new BF comes out and play full time. I bet i could devote 19 hours a day on average.

Sad thing is 10 hours a day is just an average so it's very likly he had a couple days/weeks/months whereby he spent 19 hours (probably more hours) a day playing BF2.

Well, aside from unlocks, ranks mean nothing. I've already got all teh unlocks i want (tier 1=2 for assault spec-ops, sniper) so i just play to have fun. Like we should all be doing. Because its a game.

After you have all the unlocks, the ranking system pretty much loses all meaning (to me anyway). You're not missing out.

sometimes i get bored and feel that there are so many people better than me its not even worth it, but then i just play with different mods and other things, and it puts the fun back into the game

They'll continue to dumb down the ranks and rewards with patches, the older the game gets. When BF 2142 comes out, i'm sure a lot of the current community will switch. What does that mean? Well, there will be less players and less ranked servers to play on, so EA will lessen the requirements so those that are left can feel satisfied because they are ranking up. Granted the price of BF2 may come down as well so people who don't have the game will spend 10 bucks to get it, but those fols aren't devoted enough to spend a lot of time ranking up. I give it 2 years at the most before they pull all the ranks and gove everyone all the "unlocks".

I don't know what DICE was thinking, but the points difference between the ranks is ridiculous. 30,000 between first sergeant and sergeant major, then only 10K to the next promotion, then 15K, 15K, 25K, 10K, 25K, 30K and 20K. This doesn't make any sense what so ever. Where is the logic behind this? Wouldn't it make more sense the difference to increase progressively with every next promotion, instead of some numbnuts randomly choosing numbers when creating the ranking system?

Dude's got half his veteran awards, all his basic SF awards and 184 hours played... you poor poor thing...

Well he said that doesn't play alot. What bothers me is his 0.6 k/d ratio. He did manage to kill same person 17 times in a round though.

I agree the ranks are abit high and some medal are untouchable, Im not to sure how some got the scores they did but I would think there is more to it than meets the eye. I to am have a full time job, girl, etc and I try to make a little time to do some latenight killing...Im 18000 away from next rank and do not think I will put the time in to achieve it...whoever came up with rank system is a dumbazz, fix it and to those who like the ranks then there is something wrong with you to...
