    PhysX (Cellfactor) videos updated.P

    PhysX.

Videos were updated. The Cellfactor video is almost completely new, with a bunch of added stuff. Frankly, I don't think blood spurts out of a human's body like that, but thats just...you know...my opinion. Otherwise, dam it looks good.

Oh, by the way, anyone heard about the latest babble in the hardware world? The Ageia PhysX PPU is reducing the FPS in Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, not raising it. Someone over at OCUK Forums tested it.

    1st scene without ppu = 46fps
    1st scene with ppu = 30fps

    2nd scene without ppu = 34 fps
    2nd scene with ppu = 24 fps

The screenshots were unimpressive also. Looks like GRAW's makers decided at the last minute to create som fancy effects when things blow up and offload them to the PPU, than to actually calculate the realistic physics of the game, hopefully this changes in the future. Right now, they're just giving the GPU even more to render. At the moment, I feel for those that bought this $300 Game Decelerator.

EDIT: Here's the OCUK thread with the results.

I completely agree, right now I'm very unimpressed. Hopefully this was just a half assed attempt at using the physX card and not a signal for what's to come.

Cellfactor is going to beat the **** out of QW and BF2142. I'm sorry, but it's true.

lol I like how in the GRAW video they have there you can clearly see the framerate is lower with the Physx card.

Yea, I'm really looking forward to CellFactor. That thing sold me to the PhysX card, but I'm still not buying one until I know what I'm getting. The early GRAW videos were nice, but with this drop in FPS, not worth it.

I was actually referring to their graw videos. http://physx.ageia.com/sbs_graw_2.swf
even without that guy's forum post, you can see from ageia's videos that the framerate is worse

We posted at roughly the same time, so I was replying to shank's post, but yea, I agree, the framerate drop is noticeable.

Sounds like another Creative X-FI(it will boost game performance BS)
Everyone remember when Creative said it would make the game run faster and better, and what happens, most people got a performance drop, and the rest didn't get no performance increase what soever.

first off, the creative x-fi thing gives you a boost if your CPU and integrated sound sucks balls. if you have a nforce 4 with like a amd athlon 64 3200+ or higher the only thing that will happen is better sound quality. which brings me to: you buy a sound card for better sound, not FPS.

anyways, that SORT of goes for the PPU also. i noticed that on the "without" ppu test, the FPS was higher yes, but the settings were lower. because on the "with" PPU test, the fps was lower, but there was more going on (IE. more effects, meaning higher settings). that could explain the FPS drop, most likely the extra effects (if you look at the picture) is doing fine with the PPU but adding a larger load for the GPU, which could explain the drop. there is more on the screen, so more work for the GPU. but yes, it is still lame and they should serisouly fix that, or never do it again.

also: shank, you say cellfactor is gonna whoop GRAW and 2142. well im sorry you are living in a fantasy.
                  1. the game will only be fun (and by fun i dont mean FUN, i mean visually appealing) to people with High end systems and of course; a PPU.
                  2. it was basically a display demo for the PPU's power that is being turned into a game, the story and gameplay are probably going to suck balls and the only reason people will buy it (AKA. their marketing scheme) will be the SUPER INTENSE ULTRA COOL physics [for people with PPUs].

what they should do with the PPU is allow it to work with all games (like an extra CPU kinda). that way my FEAR fps will increase. OR, they could work with dev's to release patches for older games supporting the PPU.I know the first suggestion wouldnt work, but the second one is possible.

I played the GRAW demo at highest settings possible and I wasn't impressed at all. It looked average.

Then I see these screenshots by somebody who used it with a physX add-in PCI card, which is supposed to create cool looking effects

Taken from OCUK (as per link posted in this thread). Honestly, it looks like junk. Nothing impressive at all.

Hopefully other titles may implement it better, and we can all hope the developers of GRAW took a shortcut in integrating this in their game (yeah, I hope they did), because if all games will have a similar look as this, I won't be interested at all.

Yes, sackynut, as said in the first post, thats exactly what they did. All they're doing is giving the GPU more to render (and I'm sorry, but those effects look like crap). Also, yes, game studios are thinking about releasing patches for older games.

                          Yea, that'd be so crazy.

Though whether it frees up the CPU is debateable. I know there's a lot of AI going to in FEAR, so it might, but then again it might not. Who cares anyways, Physics in FEAR would be crazy good.

So good, that I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm scared of scary games, dunno why.

Offcourse the sound card is for better sound, but Creative second marketing strategy is that it was going to also boost performance. Same thing the PPU is suppose to do. I understand there's more going on?? But what the frack is the PPU doing sitting on it's thumb??? For crying out loud, if they made more stuff happen without the PPU im sure everything would slow down, but even with the PPU is not keeping up.
So it sounds like it is either a defective product, or one that is not finish and not ready for public release, who buys is falls into the PPU scam, it is not ready.
