Deleting the Graphics Cache does not cause stability issues. A large amount of the higher up teams in competition go in and delete these files on a regular basis. They do this because it has the ability to cause an increase in performance, the amount is negligible depending on your own personal system specifications.

Doing this does not cause issues, all it does is allow bf2 to re-optimize itself.

I tried and it did as advertised. I didn't compare FPS before and after. I just like keeping things clean.
Most programs/games that run for a while gain clutter. If this helps reduce clutter, that's great.
I was having serious lag in BF2 a while ago. Short story is I has to reformat my HDD and reinstall XP/BF2 (nasty virus related).
My FPS went up at least 25%. No more FPS issues.
It's my hope that this program will keep this from happening again so quickly.

Suggestion. Change the program so it "Finds" the files first and lists them. Then a second click "Cleans" the files.
Most people will not like the idea of cleaning unknown files. I really don't either. I would rather see what is being cleaned not what was cleaned.

Do you clean your HDD by deleting files manually? Or maybe you defrag your HDD by manually relocating each file on your HDD? Do you use the command line to execute all commands? Maybe you use DOS?

From time to time people bring things here for us to try. Try it if you want to, just do it intellegently (use your head). Scan it with virus protection software and dont install anything that cant be removed later.
I myself think that this might be a useful tool, I know cleaning the CFX files can boost performance. The last time I did it I found and deleated about 4 thousand files.
You may not have any problems right now but you will, thats just BF2. Its not a bad idea to spend 30 minutes a month doing little tweaks and such to keep the game in top shape. That includes keeping notes about helpful stuff that you find along the way. Just remember, I told you so. . . . . . . . .Red

Try and do a search for the "*.cfx" files. This will be most of the files the program gets rid of, I believe. On my computer for some reason they were hidden. It took a long time to figure out what to look for and delete. I clean mine manually about every 4 to 6 weeks.

You guys are so pathetic! The man made a nice little program for LAZY FAT americans that are either 1. Don't know where the video cache files are or 2. are lazy. I give the guy credit. My only suggestions would be to include some more detail about the program and maybe a screenshot or two. Thanks for the awesome program.

I wrote it to search the default location where BF2 stores the files which is:

C:\Documents and Settings\*Insert Username Here*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\

^^ The cache folders are in there ^^

This is a bunch of mumbo jumbo. Randomly cleaning out the cache will have no effect on BF2's performance. If it did, then why didn't DICE stick a program like this in your startup so it could delete the cache everyday? What's the point of writing a C++ app for something that's as easy as point and click? Someone is trying to kill roaches with rocket launchers...

Virus scanners won't help you if the guy worked his own unknown backdoor into the program. Not saying that he did, but I always look upon "nifty" little programs like this with some suspicion, source code or not. Especially when the program does something that won't help your performance out at all and simply replaces a few clicks from your mouse. Leave this mumbo jumbo alone and upgrade your PC.

This program isn't at all comparable to defragging a hard drive manually (which is not possible) or using DOS. ANYONE can go over to My Documents>Battlefield2, disable hidden files, then delete the necessary files. If you got this far into PC gaming beyond all it's headaches, installed your own hardware, ran your own tweaks, then you can delete some files from your hard drive. You my friend are the one who is ignorant.

You missed my point entirely which is no surprise.

You also need to understand that just because someone wants to use a program to do something, it doesn't mean they don't know how to do something manually.
Do us all a favor, if you don't want to use this program, don't use it. Let others use it and just keep your misguided opinions to yourself.
