How does PB determine if your "idle" and kick you for it?

I would be playing on a server and suddenly I have to go afk but im near by, so I just wait till i die and sit int he spawn screen but every few minutes ill come back and click things and move the mouse around a bit so I wont get kicked for idling too long, but I still get kicked even though I moved the mouse around and clicked on squads and stuff. So I want to know is how PB determines that your idle and kicks you for it. :)

Command input to the server.
Wiggling the mouse while you're on the spawn screen won't help, but twitching while you're on the field will.

when i get kicked for being idle, it says "excessive teamkilling, or by successful kick vote"

Some servers just use the default kick message, which is that.

Good question, was wondering about this too! I would go AFK for a bit, but didn't want to have to rejoin and sit through the loading when I got back, so I leave the menu open and sometimes leave and rejoin different squads.

Yea, leaving and rejoining squads does send input/information to the server, so this does work right?

or hit w and then hit k... that way u'll keep moving forward and you don't need to stack a bunch of stuff on your keyboard

You need to have spawned. You don't even need to move but you have to be spawned in game to not be kicked for being idle.

Servers can set the idle time to whatever they like. I know some servers have it very low like 1 minute. Some people can't even get into the game before being kicked for being idle.

Best bet is to spawn, hide somewhere, then open the spawn screen and click somewhere other than a spawn point. That way if someone finds you, you won't respawn and die over and over.

Boom - answer is right there. If you're on the map - you aint idlin

alternatively, the EA servers don't have an Idle time. It's good for outside smokers like myself. (PS - i smoke but i'm still not cool - so don't start)

Re: How does PB determine if your "idle" and kick you for it?

guess there are too few admins answering this post
as most admins use a control program called bf2cc
we have an option that we can adjustin real time for
'idle player kick"
when servers are just getting started in the morning - we tend to keep it off
nothing worse than having a game auto end because you get less than 10 players
as the server fills up - we set it to on - for say - 15 minutes
as the day progresss and server gets full - we might change it to 5 mins
ie
ALL servers follow their own style
ref PB getting the blame?
even I think it is an 'odd' option - but as admin - we can tell system to use PB as reason - which i guess most servers use that option
to further answer the OP
and as admin - we have a program in realtime shows many variables
how long player been on server = and how long idle in given game
when we kick players to make room for admin
1st choice is highest idle time
next choice is shortest time in server

Yeah the way i do it, i spawn at the back base and walk to the farthest part of the map, find a wall, hold down w for move forward, then press enter (say all) so that i continue to walk into a wall. Oh and yeah i join a squad and set my spawn on the SL then leave the squad.

I got kicked too, yet I was not idle at all! I was manning an AA site, watching for jets, when all of a sudden I got out of the game! How is that possible?

if you are away from the game for more than 5 minutes you should leave the server first. Someone who is playing may be able to use that slot.

The only way it's not neccessary, is if you are helping to fill the server, or there are less than half on the server and none joining.

If it's a popular server, don't just go idle and leave your team a man down.

You need to move, fire, or score points.. so a CO in the CO screen that isn't scoring (scoring system & arty disabled in a mod) can be kicked for being idle.
