Whenever I pilot, I ALWAYS get someone that works with the Department of Mental Retardation. They shoot at tanks, TV infantry, and pee their panties without firing anything when the enemy chopper duels with me! Most of the time it's people that want to team up in the chopper with one of their buddies so they try to get you killed quickly. Other times they are genuine idiots/newbies. Checking ranks helps a bit in this case.

I'm getting to be dam good at the flight controls in a chopper, but I cant TV to save my @$$ so i dont bother being gunner unless im just going to cannon whore on infantry. I'm sure I could Tv if I learned but haven't ever bothered to do so. Any tips?

Metallicaguitrst: I prefer to be a gunner because my chopper flying skills are pretty mid-grade. Every once in a while i'll practice piloting a chopper if there is an unused one, but i'm not going to take the chopper from an experienced pilot if he wants it. When i fly all i do is set the gunner up for shots and dodge enemy AA, i almost never use the missiles.

Anyway, i'm really good at gunning and awesome at TV'n and i've been dying for a pilot that does his job and is "gunner friendly"


Biggest pet-peev in an attack chopper is when the pilot takes flags, i mean WTF, you're asking to get killed, almost literally "LOOK AT ME I'M HOLDING STILL!!! KILL ME KILL ME!"

you know. ive had a few people who were so bad. Id rather have someone who shoots chain gun at tanks.

Like one person. He'd jump in after i got in. He'd NEVER move the chain gun thing. it stayed still 100% of the time. He would go right into missle. A teammate was coming towards us. not exactly towards us. but hed shoot the missle and miss at them. then there'd be times where i would line up a tank. like perfectly on. easiest shot ever to take. and he'd not take it. then sometimes there's be enemy infantry around. he'd shoot missles at them and miss. There would also be like 5 mins straight where he appeared to be completely afk. but we'd die and hed be right there ready to get back in the chopper.

Now thats a bad gunner. and yes i get alot of gunners who could never kill ever even if the enemy stood there for him. which literally happens. the enemy will be prone sitting there and i will come up 2 inches from his nose and the gunner simply never shoots. he gets up and runs away.

but i also get alot of MAssively great gunners. Like i mostly play on a server which is high points wakeisland. I got a score of around 140 so my gunner got around 300. next highest score for anyone else in the server was like 30. and the admin banned him for stat padding and not me. So funny. Though im on there so much and i always have a very high score. I would just circle and keep my distance and angle on the flag exposing all the good spots. essentially killing everyone. my teammate would show up grab the flag and eventually we had them on 1 flag and we kept them there.

One thing i hate the most is people who shoot the chain gun at heli who is full health and doesnt know your there. and you have them lined up for a good tv missle chance.

Being good with the Tv guided is more dependent on your pilot helping you out than anything. I can't TV guide anything if the pilot refuses to point the chopper towards it.

I'm an average pilot but I am a fairly good gunner. Unfortunately the helipads are plasterd with retards waiting for the helo to spawn so I don't bother to wait around there and usually get a jet.
Nothing is more fun in this game to me though than flying with a great pilot.

What people dont actually pay attention to is really as you said- practicing in Single Player. But Guitarrist missed the mark here. Although you can practice "how not to crash after takeoff", the Single Player (againts bots) game is really a great way to learn how to fly.

Sit in the gunner spot and I guarantee you, you will hate the pilot and if you have any brains you will make mental notes on how to fly for the gunner.

I didnt have internet for weeks so I took it my mission to play SP, and my skill level went up. I wasnt pro, but I knew what to do inorder to keep my gunner in shot. And of course, FFAR sidestrafing is something I learned aswell. Nothing beats jumping out from behind the treelines sideways and blasting an AA emplacement to pieces.

Are there any good pilots here that like wake (I prefer gunner)? And by good, I mean someone that stays back from the action, aims me for cameras, gives me a steady base for gunning (by steady, doesn't mean you can't strafe, I just mean the jerky movements), and has awareness of what is going on around them.

Oh well, if you think you are a pretty good gunner or pilot and you love Wake, go to a server called "Dedicated Wake 24/7".

So it's you types who spam the bases constantly on Wake. Is your use-key worn out yet?
Of course you get high scores, the chopper is a mullaring cannon.
there is nothing skillful about gunning, you just point at enemy and keep firing. That is fact.
It's a bit like artillery, it's just annoying.

Playing on a 24/7 wake server yesterday, I spawned right at the attack heli. Dont usually go for them first time, but this time i jumped in. Got myself a great gunner and for the first time ever went the full round in a heli without being killed once. Gunner got around 60 kills and I got 6. Have too say that he was a great gunner and didnt need to be told when I lined him up for a TV shot.

i would recommend staying out of the 'high-points' servers, they are deemed "illegal" by the ROE, and you risk getting your stats reset....
