Mostly keyboard, occasionally mouse, when trying to shoot down choppers with cannons. It's hard, I may add, but it works against jets, using the new AA missiles. I'm not an expert, either…

Joystick, I tried using the mouse (default sensativity) and I looked like all those newbies trying a plane for the first time lol.

Got used to the jostick while playing FS2000 and haven't used anything else since then.

Your lucky, the burns from attempting jet propultion are a tad uncomfy.

Im a mouse user, 'on the fly' sensativity is a bonus but i still demonstrate that if man was meant to fly he'd have wings.

Mouse, with a very insane sensitivity setting.

Most good pilots use a joy, that is a fact. It is also a fact that you can hold the same move for a longer period than you can with a mouse, but anyone holding the same move for that long is dead meat anyways. The biggest bonus I see with a joy comes in the form of better throttle manipulation.

I've tried getting used to a joystick, but I think because I have been flying with a mouse since BF42 was out, it is a very hard for me to get used to something else.

but, you're a pretty hardcore pilot right? I mean, I remember you from the BF1942 days/forum and you were flying in that too. I think most pilots that have any experience in other games/sims tend to use joysticks. I used to play ATF, US Navy Fighters, Jetfighter 2. Heh, those were the days. What happened to Janes?

Hell, I think most gamers that have flown in previous BF games (and DC) or other similar flying games online for any good length of time have a pretty serious step over the regular run of the mill pilot in this game.

                      Nothing I enjoy more than a good dogfight, but that won't happen in BF2, so I play BF1942 occationally. And yes, I consider myself a pr0 1337 h4x0r t3h b0x0r...right...

lol, I don't! Other than being comfortable controlling the movement, BF2 is a whole different world that requires completely different reflexes.

                          Re: how do you fly??

                          Interesting.

Going from bf42->DC+BFV->BF2 was a very small transition for me, i use alot of the same tricks that I did from bf42 all the way through while learning a few new ones with the current game I was playing at that given time. My fellow clan members all feel pretty much the same way about it as me.

I would have thought the other flight sims would have been the same also, for playing 1v1 or 1v2 etc in the air. I do have to admit I have nevered tried any of them though, just the BF(DC) games.

BF42 is good fun though, simple and clean dogfights with guns only. For giggles, I dl'ed that realplayer mod for it just to see if the ai was any better at dogfighting, they follow you better but are still cr*p lol. I'll have to hop on some mp later and see if I still have the old school dogfight still in me with the good old fashioned prop power lol.

The best was the modded maps I had on the GSN Desert Combat servers. I had hid a Mustang on either side of the map, there was nothing more comical than taking out a Mig29 with one of them things.

                            Re: how do you fly??

First let me say that joystick is pretty much a new thing for me. I got one as a present when I started playing BF2 (Demo, June 2005).

Until then I was using my flight yoke for MSFS2002 PE.

Anyway, before I got the joystick, I got to play through all of the 4 combinations, all of them as a green leaf. I started up with KB+Mouse, ended up with KB+JS.

                            Heres what I remember-

Keyboard and Mouse- excellent for cannon use. ATS cannons and bombs is great. Although a bit unnatural at first, this will probably be the best way to go if youre on your way to become a BF2 pilot. Note, dogfighting with a mouse againts a JS is still a bitch. Although the pilot is ultimately whos flying the jet, joystick just opens capabilities which either take more effort with a mouse, or just cant be pulled through as well as with a mouse.

Long story short, I didnt quite get used to Mouse and KB. So I started flying KB+KB. WHich was somewhat more natural for me, since Ive played a lot of concole flight arcade games like Ace Combat series. I couldnt dogfight for **** with that combination, but ATS bombing was great.

Joystick+keys on Joystick (I didnt have twist handle). Was just too unnatural, no throttle control whatsoever. BUT, it was still ahead of the two mentioned above. As soon as I got the JS, I noticed significant improvement. Matter of fact, I downed my first jet just hours after I started flying with JS. Of course, I didnt put much effort into other means of control anyway.

JS+Keyboard- Using it ever since. Hands spread confortably. Default 900 KPH set on JS throttle and everything else is on the fly. Sometimes I wish I had less steering power with keyboard keys, but Ive got steering wheel pedals which Im going to get used to now.

Although there are people who have mastered Mouse+KB, they will be more limited to their controls than people with JS+KB. Ive been downed by people flying KB KB, (by a fluke though), but none of them was consistent enough to be better. And I blame their controls for that.

Joystick or mouse, mose or joystick... it doesnt matter. The only thing that matters is skill and training...

you're right, but the OP just wanted a general consensus of who flies with what.
