      Re: Thoughts on bombing improvment.

I play the same game that everybody else plays, and I don't find the planes to be overpowered at all, especially after the patches that have weakened their hit points and strengthened the AA. The only thing that needs to be fixed as far as the planes go is AA tracking on the J-10 and the F18 needs to be fixed. Other than that, they are fine.

As to some of the ideas posted...the idea about having the planes land is stupid for the sole reason that some of the maps are designed where it would be hard, if not impossible to land the plane...such as the landing the J-10 on Dalian Plant, or the MEC planes on Kubra Dam. Not to mention you'd have the tk'ers that would snipe you out and steal it from you.

Basically, the planes are avoidable. Granted not always, but most of the time. There are real problems that could be fixed.

These are just a few maps where people do the "circle sorties" (drop bombs then swing around to refit and repeat). I can tell you, if there are no friendly aircraft in the air to take them out, they will own the battlefield. The draw distance for certain players along with the assistance of ground targeting radar gives bombers a distinct advantage: they can seek out ground targets and approach on a bombing vector before ground vehicles can respond or get off a shot.

The best way to put some balance into it is to make them land for those carpet bombs. If the bomber whores are going to complain "whaaaaaah! no, then I'll get owned when I land", well, that's kinda the point. No kit or vehicle should be virtually untouchable and wield that much power. To let it go for the past 9 months is big mistake on DICE's behalf.
Exactly but the game has suited them all along and the bitched when AA was improved and they will bitch with anything that makes their job harder. But still we need the improvements to level the battlefield. Like I said just hope that you get a good pilot on both teams to start shootin em down. Because even though that AA is better, it dont help when you get nose cannoned every time before you can see the jet or get locked on either one.

Ungh. It's an "arcade-style" game, people, not an advanced combat simulation. Please just leave it alone and let the developers fix bugs BEFORE any adding any other content/gameplay mechanics like this.

I understand what you're getting at, but really, how often is it in any given game that YOU are the victim of constant bombardment by jets? Even when I'm pounding the ground, I get killed more by enemy artillery than by enemy jets.

Except for the incredible missile dodging "feature" that the J-10 enjoys, air combat is fine.

If they increased the lock-on range of AA to something like 500-800 meters (it's currently 300) to match that of the jets' targeting systems, pilots would run a greater risk of losing control of their aircraft. If you haven't noticed, the controls get a little iffy once you hit the 800 meter mark. And, since the maps are too small for aircraft already, increasing the AA lock-on range would make it nearly impossible to fly without constantly being under lock.

          No thanks.

The best method behind fixed AA:
          • wait near the AA emplacement for an enemy jet to fly over
          • jump in AA emplacement
          • lock on, wait for flares, re-lock, fire.
          • get out of AA and seek nearby cover to repeat the process

Of course, most pilots destroy the AA BEFORE anyone sits in them anyway.

Most kills that I get against static AA emplacements are when people sit in them and simply scan the skies for targets.

With all the nub commanders these days, the flippin planes would be circling forever without ever being able to anything. The commander already has a lot to do during the game. Adding 'Bomb runs' might be pushing the responsibility over the edge, IMO.

I have a feeling that you have never played maps like Daqing Oilfields. Try to hop into the AA on one of those maps.

I was thinking (after getting spawn "jet whored" about 13 times) about the way planes operate in the game. I think it would be nice if the planes could only release bombs on specific areas targeted by commander and possibly even with a timer bar such as artillery. This would get rid of noob jet whoring and be a little more realistic at the same time. I have never heard of a flight crew being released without orders on a target.

Half the commanders just put UAV's on groups for bombers anyway so they are more effective than artillary.

Air to air could stay because that is on-the-fly most of the time but the bombing runs are rediculous.

Also landing to reload weapon bay would be nice.

I like flying too but I tend to pick out the more devestating element to help my team such as APC's and tanks and not just bomb the same spawn over and over for the kill factor. ( I really dont like p1$$ing people off )

                Your thoughts?
Hmmm...some good ideas and I think they should be implemented.

It's a well known fact that those emplacements are in incredibly bad positions. Generally, only a partial view of the sky is available from them and makes for shooting jets down nearly impossible if they're not already smoking and out of flares.

Ladies and gentlemen, give this chimp a round of applause please. This is what you get whenyou try to be an expert in an area you dont know anything about.

Do you realize that once you land, youre dead? Dead, no other way around it. Zero chances. Go be a pilot and youll see what I mean.
