    Thoughts on bombing improvment.

I dont want this to turn into a realism discussion so lets try to stay on topic for this one.

I was thinking (after getting spawn "jet whored" about 13 times) about the way planes operate in the game. I think it would be nice if the planes could only release bombs on specific areas targeted by commander and possibly even with a timer bar such as artillery. This would get rid of noob jet whoring and be a little more realistic at the same time. I have never heard of a flight crew being released without orders on a target.

Half the commanders just put UAV's on groups for bombers anyway so they are more effective than artillary.

Air to air could stay because that is on-the-fly most of the time but the bombing runs are rediculous.

Also landing to reload weapon bay would be nice.

I like flying too but I tend to pick out the more devestating element to help my team such as APC's and tanks and not just bomb the same spawn over and over for the kill factor. ( I really dont like p1$$ing people off )

    Your thoughts?

I like what you're saying. However, to take it a step further. Have the timer bar reload the plane's weapons. So the bomber flies to the intended target, takes it out, then has to stay safe until the timer finishes (you can still shoot stuff with guns and missiles) but your bombs won't reload until the timer comes back. This may work best with the new plane class coming in Armored Fury since there will be no gunner to make things more complicated.

I think that originally it was intended for spec ops to call out bombings but was removed before the game hit the shelves...good idea's though.

With all the nub commanders these days, the flippin planes would be circling forever without ever being able to bomb anything. The commander already has a lot to do during the game. Adding 'Bomb runs' might be pushing the responsibility over the edge, IMO. I like everything the way it is now...JUST FIX THE BUGS. Leave everything else the same. Stop complaining about gameplay and just ENJOY the game, bud. (No ill-will towards you at all.)

Yeah thats a good idea with the reload. They should do one or the other. Either make them land for a sec or give the commander power.

Yeah that would be a problem but that means that more mutiny's would have to take place to get a good commander. Which also brings up the bugged "rank commander" deal. I hate when I Lt. gets commander when we got a better general on our side. But thats off topic.

I know the game is supposed to be semi-realistic arcade action, but the bomber whoring can really get out of hand. Given that increasing your draw distance to spot incoming jets would bog your CPU down a bit, an enemy UAV over your position pretty much does the spotting work for the jets. I agree that you should fly to a friendly airbase and land in order to refit bombs at least. The routine of carpet bomb, flyover refit, carpet bomb, flyover refit, and so on only rakes up points for the guy that happens to get to the bomber first.

Couple this argument with the "using a vehicle to rake up points for your kit" discussion and you'll see correlation.

I've flown my team's bomber to our airfield on Operation Clean Sweep and landed. It's dramatic and a bit awe inspiring, but I like the realism and I know that I could never be accused of bomber whoring.

And in your experience, how many times has the Mutiny option actually WORKED in this game? Too many votes are needed to mutiny/kick anyone. Either ppl have the 'Vote' option disabled, or don't care enough to choose. It's a bummer.

Doubt if that will make into any game, reminds me of some sig i've read once... the unhappy ones are those who complain. or something like that :p well my point is, if this gets ever into A game, DICE will have to take care of thousands of pilots, including me.

I think bombers should drop loads of bunnies, like in "Monty Python and Holy Grail", and then the enemy can have a chance at fighting them...possibly even with a Holy Hand Grenade?

Yeah well we can only hope. I hate to see a server empty in 5 mins because of one good pilot that takes advantage of the only flaw in the game that wont get fixed.

Which flaw is this? I know of only one flaw: The USMC doesn't do their job therefore the bomber is left bombing away....wait, is this a flaw?

                        Re: Thoughts on bombing improvment.

The bombing improvements that i always thought would be best would be to remove the 5 pilot bombs from the su34's and f15's and have it laser guided only as they are devastating enough on there own IMHO, and make the fighters have to choose between missiles and bombs at each reload, even if you loadout with missiles to take down a bomber the cannon is murderous if used correctly on ground targets, even armour. However i guess this won't be popular with others.

A better idea might be to make the reload happen one at a time, as in the first fly past it adds one missile only and then the seconds adds another missile, repeat untill they are full only THEN will the bombs start to reload one at a time as well, it would certainly slow down "circle bombing" as i call it (where the bombing run is combined with one loop of the airfield)

Also the more dogfights the plane got into the more less bombing could be done as the missile reload is always first. Perhaps even make it so the flares need slowly reloading as well before the bombs.

In principle the idea of landing to reload is a good one, however in practice i forsee if this happens then the enemy plane could destroy you and keep you grounded simply by using the cannon on the sitting target on the runway. Also with single runway maps you would block the other plane and i forsee many collisions with taxiing planes

No I dont mean a one sided bomber. They get just as bad on the USMC side against the MEC. I mean the flaw is letting the bombers just keep dropping bombs repeatidly out of any plane. I mean unless you play Karkand or no good pilots are playing that day then Infantry is almost useless anymore. If there are too very good pilots on opposite teams is the only way you get a good match.

                            Re: Thoughts on bombing improvment.

Infantry movement is by far the best and most effective component of the Battlefield game, but having all the added dangers such as bomb runs, tank convoys, makes it much more enjoyable than the typical shooter.

The bombers are easily taken down if your team properly and effectively mount the AA sites and/or pilot the F35. True it's a challenge, but that's the point, is it not?

I find that if/when I'm stuck being infantry or light vehicle, I cross the "regions" I need to cross as quickly as I can and then procede on foot.

Again, there is no real imbalance in the game other than the players you are teamed up with. It's sad, but as great as you may be, your goal and victory is tied up by the simple fact that most "teams" don't play as a team.

I like the bombers as they are, but I will agree to a jet having to do multiple runs over the airfield to refuel at 100%, this seems to be a good way of preventing abuse on the bomber's or even fighter's part.

Personally, I enjoy flying the helo and fighters, and will only jump in a APC/tank if another teammate follows me around with his/her vehicle, hopefully sticking to the eng. class.

                              Operation Clean Sweep
                              Kubra Dam
                              Daqing Oilfields

These are just a few maps where people do the "circle sorties" (drop bombs then swing around to refit and repeat). I can tell you, if there are no friendly aircraft in the air to take them out, they will own the battlefield. The draw distance for certain players along with the assistance of ground targeting radar gives bombers a distinct advantage: they can seek out ground targets and approach on a bombing vector before ground vehicles can respond or get off a shot.

The best way to put some balance into it is to make them land for those carpet bombs. If the bomber whores are going to complain "whaaaaaah! no, then I'll get owned when I land", well, that's kinda the point. No kit or vehicle should be virtually untouchable and wield that much power. To let it go for the past 9 months is big mistake on DICE's behalf.
