Unless you bypass any copy protection to do so. Which you would have to, so yes it is ilegal.

I reccomend everyone be familiar with the DMCA.

How exactly are you bypassing the copy protection? I'm not questioning, I just want to know. I would imagine that the cd would have an encrypted list of valid cd keys....or possibly cd key ranges. If you enter in a cd key on that list it gives you permission to install the file. IF thats the way it works, then I dont see how thats circumventing anything security program.

No that's not how it works. There is protection (whether it be SerureROM, Safedisk, etc) That (is supposed to) prevent(s) you from making valid copies of the disk, has nothing to do with installation or CD keys. Just to make a valid working copy or image you have to bypass copy protection.

Looked it up, BF2 is protected with Safedisc 4.

I use protect, limiting the chance of infection.

protect is a self awarness programme :)

Hmm, I burnt an image of my BF2 cd using only nero that came stock with my system.


Thanks for the insight though, if thats the case it would be illegal, but honestly, they will not go after this guy so long as he keeps proof that he bought a legitimate copy of the game.

And if he lives in canada, he has nothing to worry about it. We do recognize internet piracy as a crime. (AFAIK) Hell I download between 5-15gb a week on average.

You can get it replaced by EA for something like $13, but who knows how long that will take. You could buy the game in the store, put the scratched cd back in the case, then exhange it(most stores wont allow you to return games), then you'll have two working copies (better than one at least), then try to sell it to a friend at school or something.
