Re: Flying Low In Choppers, Revealing Your Position, HALO, and Leapfrogging

I love shooting down those morons that fly low...get painted by IGLAs, lit up by cars and tanks. It makes it so easy for jets to shoot them down. I notice when I fly high straight to the Airfield, I never get bothered and have never been shot down. The problem is people don't always know what you're doing and they bail out at weird places. It's a pain to type and say what you're because you want to get up fast before the j10s come hunting.

It's better waiting the few minutes it takes to get there then spend a whole round trying to get a flag and having to deal with J10s strafing the lil island and carrier and attack heli tv guiding the Blackhawk.

I also like to check with the Commander to see if the main base is clear, then I tell my dead squad members I'm taking a jet as SL to quickly get to the main flag and HALO in. Then the guys spawn on me and it's Insta-Cap(tm) with all assets down in 30 seconds. :)

I'm probably wrong about the chute deploy/undeploy, though I've had it happen. Probably just a glitch.

Altitude is actually in meters and I've gotten up to at least 365 meters on Wake before. When you get that high as pilot, you need to be able to fly based only on the instruments and mini-map as you lose all sight of the ground in the haze.

On flight tactics, I fly either really low (terrain hugging) or really high. Anything in between is suicide at worst and a crap shoot at best. On Wake for example one can fly along, close to and below island level and thereby avoid the AA sites...they can't lock on and the missle will actually impact the sandbags surrounding the turret if fired. On Dragon Valley, as USMC I skim right over the land north of the base, cut through the out of bounds and then dive down into the river valley and skim the water. The dive gives you enough speed to then flare up and deposit your troops at the Refinery base.

More often than not though, they will jump out and immediately pop their chutes and take 5 minutes to float down to the ground - not realizing then can close/re-open their chutes again to get there faster
hOW DO YOU DO THAT, PRESS "9" AGAIN?

i guess it depends of the map, in Wake with good J-10 pilots you don't have time to go up... the only option is low and fast

You know, I never knew you could close your parachute after you've deployed it...enlighten me on how this is done?

I would hit my 9 key repeatedly, but it probably deployed again due to resynchs on a laggy server.

I usually hover (more like a waver) between 450-500 feet in the transport. I really suck at being a pilot (and shooting) and use 3rd person view (F10) to fly. The smart ones take out the UAV and Scans first so they can't be spotted so easily and then the flag from different directions, taking the tank and attack chopper if they're there, and the FAV's while one guy gets the arty. Fast and lethal.

The guys good at HALO will aim and pop their chutes right next to their target about 5-20 feet above the ground. If they see a guy on the roof, they'll pop it to the side and take him out while in the air while the guy is looking horizontally. WTF??? It's SOP on 21CW matches.

Like I said before though, it's best to check with the Commander first to minimize resistance. Usually best done early in the match where everyone rushes to the tips in Wake or Clean Sweep.

Speaking of which, they took the AS on Wake and *EVERYONE* abandoned their posts and rushed there. Got on the Com and told them that if they did that then they would just take all the undefended flags and roll us up. No sooner I said that then a loaded BH drops in at NVand NB and that was that. *Squish*

I love doing that, you can really measure how good of a pilot you are up there, Its a whole new part of the game. Also its alot quieter up there too, just the sounds of your rotors, I usually turn on some music whilst Im working on my hovering techniques :)
