Flying Low In Choppers, Revealing Your Position, HALO, and Leapfrogging

Why do people fly low in transport choppers???

Why do the gunners fire at nothing at all and give away our position when doing so???

95% of the time I am in a transport chopper, the pilot takes off and flies right into the IGLA's, tanks, other choppers, and jets and dowwwwwwwwn we go in flames.

Not only that, the gunners are firing into the water at nothing just making a lot of noise and giving away our position.

When I pilot a transport chopper, I take it straight up to 400-500 feet where I am more invisible and less accessible.

Of course, all the while, most people are just screaming GO! GO! GO!, not realizing that we are going to fly high, leapfrog them by by bypassing the main battle(s), hover over a weak flag and HALO in, take the flag and grab their armor/helos/jets (and maybe blind and de-claw them by taking out their assets) to open up a rear action behind their lines, thus drawing forces away from the main battle(s) or even just act as a mobile spawn point (I'm SL) above the flag so my squad (if I have members on the helo) can HALO in.

Rarely do I get shot down and rarely will I find some players with brains who will see me in the chopper and join my squad and HALO in.

More often than not though, they will jump out and immediately pop their chutes and take 5 minutes to float down to the ground - not realizing then can close/re-open their chutes again to get there faster... If I don't get a good squad, I HALO in myself.

BTW, I see the Nort and South bases get leapfrogged all the time on Wake. Everybody hops in an FAV or tank and heads straight to the tips. A helo or two just flies right past them all, caps the unguarded flags, and they are isolate the guys at the tips.

What a great time it is though when you find some good, smart players. :)

Because 80% of pub players are stupid perhaps.

1st On what servers are you playing? 2nd Tell them to stfu.. I know how it feels but that are just people and that's when I get a floating coffin (Other word for "B.O.A.T." It just ****es me off when people Vehicle whore and teamkill and then I say "wtf" and as response: You stole my vehicle not that I steal vehicles but if that's the only vehicle left then I need to take it and I don't teamkill btw for vehicles..

But that's Wake... (LOVE the map though)

Well see, there are times when I fly low, and times when I fly high. Normally, I'll fly high, unless jet opposition is likely. When there are too many enemy jets in the air, or when stingers are plentiful, I fly low. Why low? Simple, I like to put junk in the way of those missiles. Trees, hills, buildings, etc. Also, the enemy can see you from a long way away up high than if you're hugging the dirt.

I agree on the gunner thing. Every time my gunners waste ammo and give away my position I get an urge to fly my helo into the nearest building.

The problem on Wake though, is the time it takes to get up high leaves you very vulnerable to the jets. They make passes at the carier every minute or so, maybe less, you still need that bit of good fortune to actually make land.

Good points though, I agree mostly.

Do you know why they are screaming GO GO GO!? How would they realize your plan if you havent told them? They probably figure you are some tard yourself, that doesnt know how to fly, and takes thier sweet time, while wasting others....its silly for you to expect them to "realize" your elaborate plan, lmao, be real........

Most people that play BF2 want instant action, not some 10 minute scenic helicopter ride, where you waste your time getting up into the air only to be shot down by the elusive J-10. You wouldnt last a minute on Wake with smart J-10 pilots, decent ones know silly tricks like that and will hunt you down...

Yes thw worst is when you are usmc wake. What I like to do is get the black hawk and fly a wide swath around the island as squad leader. I then swoop in on the airfield and my entire squad and I will turn the flag in 1 sec.

It takes a long time to get there but it is worth it. Inevitably I'll get some pubber screaming "go go!" "Wtf are you doing noob". I wished I could eject him out of the chopper into the ocean. Saying.
"We're to heavy, need to get rid of some dead weight."

lol. One thing you touched on reminded me of something. Gunners ALWAYS like to give away positions. I like to speed around in the jeeps and my own friends are usually riding with me. We come to tanks and they want to shoot at it with their MGs saying "Kill us PLz! We are 3 free kills!!" So I end up having to yell at my own friends...This happens with strangers too...It's like 'duh' you can't kill a tank with an MG.

Anyway, yeah, you need to TELL people when you're going to do something intelligent.

I do try to tell them via the chat. I say, "going high, HALO flag" for the blue guys and if I have squad members, I use VOIP. Usually doesn't help though. Too many kids who missed their Ritalin dose around I guess...

I can usually avoid jets too. I just roll and dive or pull and roll and they go right by as they are more linear than a chopper. Sure, I take some damage and have to clean up the the airsickness later, but it gets me by.

I've stayed above the airstrip flag on Wake all match with guys piling out like crazy. The ones who do it for the first time laugh like crazy and have a blast. I'm not the best pilot though, so I wind up wandering away from the flag due to the lag in the controls (and me).

Nape of the earth used to be the way to go with Blackhawks. Even now, I can sometimes fly in low enough and fast enough to avoid getting locked up. IT depends on the situation, tho.

As for flying low to the ground, that's where most of the static objects are. If you've ever sat in the stinger or IGLA seat, you know that getting a lock is hard if there are objects between you and the target. Flying low and weaving between buildings, trees, and valleys puts more objects between you and any SAM location. It's a survival tactic, provided ther are not tanks or AA vehicles around.

And this is coming from the kind of pilot that flies blackhawks through the Kubra dam.

Try getting a loaded 'hawk through the train barn on Oilfields with your squad screaming "Gimp!! What the F:censored:k are you doing???".
