Battlefield Vietnam vs Battlefield2

Recently in threads a few people have mentioned Battlefield Vietnam.
So it's brought about a few memories about what actual features BF:V had.
Now everyone knows that BF:V was a fairly weak game but some of the features in the game would have been alot better in BF2.
The Hueys were a joy to transport troops into battle with the ability to move jeeps into battle with the winch, plus Chinook. Which to be honest was alot more fun than using a BlackHawk or that Cow thing.
Also did they have choppers in that game where you could spawn from?
They also had the floating spawn point with helipad.
Other things that were good were Battleradio, handheld AA, PBR's.
From what I remember I had more >fun< playing BF:V than BF2 even though you couldn't hit a barn door with the rifles:laugh:
So thinking about it why didn't BF2 have some of these features.

That cow thing huh? lol..... The reason is probably that DICE wanted the game to feel like a totally new game instead of reusing old features from previous games. As I said...that's just a guess.

I think you'll find the general consensus on this forum is that BFV was a complete piece of garbage.

i liked BFV....used to be good infantry player and chopper whore.....comparing it to bf2 the choppers were way overpowered....especially when usa got all thier choppers stolen and just got circle raped heh. i got pretty good at nailing circle raping choppers with my LAW though when on USA :)

also i loved the infantry jungle maps....running through the jungle as NVA with my MAT-49 listening for USA's heavy boot footsteps and then jumping out from the trees behind them and mowing them down :)...got called a cheater so much for that hehe

BF2 could do with a decent jungle map...best we have are the china ones but the trees are really annoying and dont let you get though some and you end up getting stuck and annoyed.

playing BFV good times, I still start it up and have a game every now an then (even if it is only SP) I really enjoyed that game.
Yes it did have it's problems, like the chopper ownage and accuracy with most of the rifles but I didnt mind. I think this was the most FUN game out of all the Bf.
Picking up a loaded APC or jeep or tank and dropping it in the middle of a major battle between sides (or in the water if you were prick), having the entire team jump into the back of a chinook and para jump over an enemy base with "The ride of the Valkyries" play over the radio, watching players caught in a napalm strike, the AAM carried by troops, being able to pick what your player looked like and being able to choose which gun you liked.
The only thing it lacked was iron-sites but nobodys perfect.

I like BF2, but IMHO BFV rocks too. The infantry combat is great, and I never have any problems with any of the rifles. I love the night maps especially. I don't understand why so many people bash BFV. Its a great game.

BF:V wasn't something to be taken seriously I reckon.
Yea the rifles accuracy were poor but I think I had more fun playing BF:V than BF2.

What? Battlefield Vietnam was the ultimate killing fest.
I never noticed anything wrong with the accuracy of the weapons?
Man, i haven't enjoyed a game nearly as good since.

Meh Don't like BFV it's just.. I don't know.. It's different but some stuff really is crappy and some stuff rocks though I never liked BFV but I did like BF1924 (REALLY good game imo WITH good dogfights in place of those crappy bf2 rocket fights..)

I loved BF: V (clocked 500hrs through Xfire) all while also playing COD and COD UO.

I continued enjoying BF V when I got my new videocard, finally was able to crank the settings without lag jerks inside buildings.

My biggest pet-peeve about that game was simply this: You go up and up and up and up and up and up....you get my drift! :) There was also the annoying fact that once at a certain height, all the "people" looked like a some kind of cross with a gun strapped to its chest..if crosses could have chests. Whether they laying down, dead or running around, they all looked the same. Very difficult to notice if you're shooting an enemy rather than a dead body.

Here are some things I rather enjoyed:

- flying/driving with classic hippy rock! :)
- mobile spawn points
- the NVA's second sniper rifle kit rocked (single shot AK i think...)
- I love the Huey, both transport and attack
- Love the MIG and all jets for that matter
- POE mod!!!!! Best EVER!
- Hook on helicopters to transport vehicles/crates

Things I disliked:

- Nothing really new from 1942 except for better grass rendering
- US had no ground heat seekers
- Spawn points were too easily camped, no real defense

Other than all that, I loved the game. It's what got me hooked on playing Bf, simply cause I could fly helicopters! :)

I really liked DC for BF1942, because of the open-ended maps without any real linear path/gameplay I was used to taking in COD and MOH AA.

I miss those maps on battlefield vietnam where only the US had an airbase and you could steal the only jet and rack up tonnes of chopper kills.

Oh god. Reminded me of the countless raids we made on US airfield on one specific map.
Was awesome, no UAV to spot you out so all you had to do was go prone behind cover when choppers went over playing "I fought the law".
Then crawl round the outskirts of the airfield and launch an attack on people waiting for choppers and then take the choppers and your off.
God that was so much fun!
The bloke who mentioned about the sniper's 2nd choice rifle was damn fine!
