Oh, I wouldn't count on that.

If DICE is smart, they'll design a system that allows you to keep your stats and nick with 2142. I have a feeling that people are going to flock towards this game.

Actually, it would save 'em some money.
The account system is all setup within Gamespy. If they were to preserve the current accounts and system, all they'd have to do is link those accounts to the new product rather than setting up a whole new Database.

More cost effective, more community friendly, generally just a better way to go.

Ofcource, that doesn't mean anything when it comes to EA implementing something. :p

With the new BF2-related products, we've already seen proof that they can add new entries to their stats database easily enough. It wouldn't be too absurd to consider just adding on a whole new set of things to keep track of. The only problem comes in that we are to expect a "skill-tree" type progression of ranks and unlocks from the new game. Time will tell if the system they implement will compatible with Gamespy's existing ranking setup, or if they decide to use a new one.

I just hope the massive Gamespy server load upon release doesn't cause issues like it did during BF2's release. And hopefully not for BOTH games' ranked servers at the same time.

I hope the system last for a long while. I am still trying to get certian promotions and such. As far as game life goes everyone is right could be long or short. I play Return to Castle Wolfenstein and the game is at leat 4 years old and there are servers there still. But who knows in this day and age with different companies.

Me too but this isn't about the players or even the server operators. The question is how long EA will continue to let them access the account/stats server. Fortunately we have the option of setting up unofficial stat servers so potentially we could have stats even after EA shuts it off if someone is willing to take on the task of providing a public stat server. And I'm sure there will be unranked and/or modded BF2 servers long after EA shuts down their stat server.

So how long do you think the BF2 stats system will last? NFSU1 lasted 2 years I believe until they pulled the server.

Did you just compare BF2 to NFSU? Holy crap, does anyone even play that game let alone own a copy? And seriously, how much replayability could an online racing game have? Wait, lemme guess, so like you play for money, and run from cops, but when you make it away, you can buy new cool uber leet parts for your cars and then get back on the road? You can probably even change the color of your car!!! OMGZ!!!

Racing games blow my mind. It's like a virtual barbie game but for little boys. Dressing up their cars and sh*t... rofl.

Okay, so maybe I just don't like it, but I've never even heard of it being anything big at all. I can't see how your comparison is anything but a disanalogy. BF2 is huge and I'm pretty sure EA isn't going to just pull the servers and walk away from their user base and ditch all the marketing they've already put into all of us. We are worth too much to them. As long as there are large numbers of people playing this game, it will continue to be supported as it's a tappable market for more money.

I had a thought and was wondering how long the ranking system will exist for BF2 especially after BF2142 is released.

If anyone has played Need for Speed Underground. They may know that the servers have been removed and you can no longer play that online. Pity if you bought that now and expected to be able to play online only to find out you can't now.

Same goes for NFSU2. I haven't played that in a long time but I doubt the servers will be up for much longer going off past history of NFSU1.

So how long do you think the BF2 stats system will last? NFSU1 lasted 2 years I believe until they pulled the server. Now take this scenario. Private ranked servers move onto BF2142 when its released. That means EA are making their money off 2142 and not BF2. There will come a time when its not worth paying Gamespy to host stats any longer. Then the envitable will happen and the stats will be pulled. Not only that how many EA servers will disappear from BF2 and those resources be used for 2142.

I don't think we have anything to worry about you can't compare BF 2 too BF 2142 most game critics like me from what we seen the BF 3 game looks like crap its still running the same game engine the only difference is the soldiers all have futureistic stuff. This BF 3 game could be easily moded into BF 2.
