How long will the Ranking system exist for BF2?

I had a thought and was wondering how long the ranking system will exist for BF2 especially after BF2142 is released.

If anyone has played Need for Speed Underground. They may know that the servers have been removed and you can no longer play that online. Pity if you bought that now and expected to be able to play online only to find out you can't now.

Same goes for NFSU2. I haven't played that in a long time but I doubt the servers will be up for much longer going off past history of NFSU1.

So how long do you think the BF2 stats system will last? NFSU1 lasted 2 years I believe until they pulled the server. Now take this scenario. Private ranked servers move onto BF2142 when its released. That means EA are making their money off 2142 and not BF2. There will come a time when its not worth paying Gamespy to host stats any longer. Then the envitable will happen and the stats will be pulled. Not only that how many EA servers will disappear from BF2 and those resources be used for 2142.

I have a feeling that stats system for BF2 and BF2142 will be combined. stats system is designed with supporting multiple games in mind.

Hard to say? If they have their marbles in order then there is probably a specific usercount and time threshold for the system's lifetime. But at this point the stats system has pretty much served its purpose anyways with the hard cap on unlocks having been reached. Only the most hardcore players are continuing with honest efforts to achieve the stratospheric ranks and achievements. This is a great time for the mods to arrive on the scene.

im hoping for a while...my chances on a comp upgrade are slim and bf2 is just about the max my system can handle, but hey...cs sstill has servers and im sure starcraft has some too

2 to 3 years is the "normal" life cycle for a game. Some last longer, some last shorter.

Last time i checked there was still servers running the original Unreal Tournament online so i wouldnt worry about them cutting off battlefield, the whole game is based on online play so i predict there'll stil be people playing Bf2 in five years time, maybe more. as for the stats they are gettin kind of pointless, but for new people presumably they still provide the enjoyment they did to us when we started. i can never see myself becoming a four star general but i dont play for that anymore....

I'll have to check, but I think there are still Diablo servers running on Battle.net. BF2 is pretty popular, so it might stick around for quite a while.

that is the reason they wont cut them soon - the entire game is online

True. At least UT has intelligent bots. Epic did some surveys and research and found that only a small percentage of customers who bought UT actually played it online. That's why they are still going to have their trademark bots and single player ladders in UT2007.
The bots in BF2 suck. You need mods to get them to stop eating their own poo.

As long as there are enough ranked servers out there that EA could make a profit off them to pay for the stats servers.

Yeah guys but we are talking EA here. Not Blizzard for Diablo or Unreal Tournament, remember this is EA.

I mean Diablo 2 had a patch not long ago talk about supporting the community.

I think that many players will still stick to BF2 over 2142. I know that I will.
