Re: Helicopter Tutorials... Heli Guides... Hope they help

Thanks guys just getting video 4 now.

Does anyone know how those really good heli pilots do those high speed circling over flags? I've tried it myself but i'm only able to get about 1.5 spins around the flag before I lose too much height and have to drop off.

If you don't know what im talking about i'll try to explain technically a little better.

Certain pilots are able to perform gravity and thrust defying manuovers in their heli's (mainly cobras). The main thing I see but can't replicate are small radius (probably two [or less!] tank lengths total diameter) spins around a flag while their body of the heli is upright and nose is pointed down the the flag.

My version of this is if I was doing a counter clockwise circle would be to :

        1. come in a flag to the right of it and high.
        2. pull back and pull nose up to slow it down at the same time the body of the heli is rolled to the right slightly so the thrust of the heli creates the spinning movement.
        3. push joystick top left to swing nose left and down, at the same time pushing my "d" key to throw the tail to the right.
        4. If my nose/aiming gui had a laser pointer on it I would be drawing a counter clockwise circle on the ground.

My main problem with this is my speed. Its just not fast enought so much so that even the inept AT guy gets easy AT shots into me.

Now I can do this fine for flater/larger radius circling but how are people doing it where the nose is more pointed and and a much smaller radius? When I have done it there isn't enough directional thrust to keep the circle happening AND keep the same altitude.

Any one have any ideas? Cheers.

*edit* I think ive found it. Will have to try it tonight.

"Variable_k_81 : to circle a target with your nose isnt all that difficult once you get started...
first i use the mouse to put the copper on its side...so your view should look like if you turn your head 90deg left or right...apply full pressure to the throttle (W key)

only do this for a second and then level out again, take your finger off the throttle and youll notice you are drifting to the side you tilted to

now all you need to do is tilt a slight bit to keep your sideways speed and use your rear prop controls to continually swing the tail around resulting in a spiral with your nose in the middle...kinda confusing but i hope it helps..." - Source : http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70074

*edit 2* the above method results in the heli spinning around its tail not its nose.

Kooper: My suggestion would be to up the sensitivity before trying to do the spinning. I can't really give you any conrete directions on what to do but I have a suggestion to make: Do a large circle and then make them successively smaller. Do it until you manage to do the small diameter circle. I am of the opinion that you cant fly with your brain only with your "muscle memory" and that can only take place with enough time in the cockpit.

I've tried uppping sensitivity and it doesnt make any difference. I can do high speed larger ones without a problem. Its the spinning on the nose almost looking directly down that has me boggled. It reminds me of those old circle tricks where the guy on the motorbike is inside a cage and is racing around horizontally. The exeption being he's doing it on one wheel with the front wheel pointing inwards the entire time. It just seems to defy physics lol.

I've seen a guy that regularly joins our squad do it so ill ask him how he's doing it.

Nice videos, the actual spoken part of the tutorial was not as useful to me, but I'm sure many people benefited from it. Being able to watch someone in first-person view, to see how they maeuvered and dogfighted was very useful.

Just a question, what sensitivity did you use? 'Cause it looked much higher than the default to me. Myself, I love having crazy high sensitivties for everything in all my games.
