Helicopter Tutorials... Heli Guides... Hope they help

I hope that some of you might be able to find them useful. I must warn you... the first one is very very basic...

    Lesson 1: The Basics - http://files.bf2s.com/details.php?file=318
    Lesson 2: Maintaining A Diameter - http://files.bf2s.com/details.php?file=370
Lesson 3: Dogfighting (heli vs heli) - http://files.bf2s.com/details.php?file=392
    Lesson 4: The Gunner's Seat - http://files.bf2s.com/details.php?file=405

Like I said, I made these to help the community. I just hope at least one person benefits. Any comments or constructive feedback is always welcome.

P.S. most people already have it, but if you don't you'll need the divx codec. If you don't know whether you need it or not, download the videos and if they don't play then you need it. Go to http://www.divx.com/divx/play/download/ ...type in your email address and press download. After you have it downloaded, when you press install, simply install the codec, you don't need to install the player and other things.

I watched those when they were posted on the other forum. Thanks for making them - I was always really wondering how to strafe side to side in the chopper.

The only problem that I then came on was I would roll 1 way then put in the yaw in the opposite direction, but it seems like my yaw is more powerful than my roll (Settings) and would start twisting the whole chopper sideways.

Watched them. These are very good. If people ask how to fly a chopper, they should be directed here.

When it comes to maneuvering the chopper, Im pretty much at ArmyDrs level. I can do some good stuff with it in heavy action. All via trial-and-error method in LAN server. However, I cant match his combat skills... that trick over Wake was so fracking awesome. I couldnt have seen the shot opportunity there.

I was playing with this guy last night...his nick was blaire something or rather...anyways, this guy was freaking amazing. He had complete control over the chopper. He would roll the thing at like 30 feet to dodge incoming fire, and then put it into hover so I could gun them down.

                        It was insane.

I've had a gunner like that before. He didn't miss a single shot. All he needed was someone to spot a tank on the other side of the map (pre-1.2) and a few seconds later i'd get a driver kill assist

Salutes. I just got a joystick this afternoon, and BOY was I in for a hard time. Anyway, these guides should really help me and a friend of mine who both aspire to be Helicopter pilots. Thanks for the guides.

Very nice guides aimed at beginners. I have a few problems though.

                              1. Your altitude when setting the gunner up for 20mm kills in the second video.
                              2. Not going the full circle.
                              3. The slow speed you're circling with.
                              4. Your aversion to barrel rolls.
                              5. Your lack of mention on how to avoid hellfires.

                              1. At the altitude you were at in the second video when you're showing how to keep a diameter you are a very nice target for bot SRAAW's and armor. This of course varies from situation to situation but a higher altitude is usually better.

                              2. If you're not doing a full circle you don't get full coverage of the area. It also gives your gunner a much less consistent aiming point as you jerk around when switching directions. The only times I would consider not going the full circle is if I need to keep a certain area of the map under surveillance for other helicopters. I.e. too many ground pounders to go solely air to air but you know a helo is coming.

                              3. If this was for instructional purposes then it's fine but I would consider a higher ammount of speed pretty essential to survival. At that speed you are likely to get hit by skilled SRAAW users.

                              4. As you say barrel rolls are useless to shake off another helo but they are IMO under some circumstances preferred to evade a hellfire. If you have the altitude and time to do a fast barrelroll against a skilled gunner then do it. In my experience it messes up the hitboxes so bad even a skilled gunner won't hit more often than one in five or ten (maybe more, it's hard to do this in training sessions witout bias and ingame gunners are usually less able than any of my gunners which increases the bias).

                              5. I very rarely die of FFAR's when playing unless you are caught totally unaware from behind. The most significant threat against your helo is a hellfire. I'm not sure what the general public skill level is over in the states but over here the people that usually get the helo know to use and hit with the hellfires.

I understand that this is aimed at persons with a basic skill level but I would consider height and speed when strafing ground targets very important.

EDIT: I should probably mention that I rarely fly with copilots that are clueless. If I can't get a competent gunner I will go fight on the ground. I fly almost exclusively with the gunners of my clan, public or not. So I can't vouch that some of my opinions are aplicable with a less capable gunner.
