Im going to go somewhat offtopic.

Kattspya, in order to increase your gunners ability to use the cannon, what needs to be done? How do you have to fly? Please describe.

In order to gun with Cobra cannon, what needs to be aimed for and how?

I'm not talking about increasing the gunners accuracy with the cannon per se it's a mixed deal.

If you fly higher you have a much higher survivablility at the cost of a small decrease in spotting ability but at the same time you can see a larger area.

If you're going from side to side your gunner will likely be unable to counter your movements each time you change the direction that way he can't be effective for a second or so every time you reach the end of your semicircle. If you keep a steady circle your movement is predictable and the gunner can lead the target 100% (theoretically) of the time. You also get the added benefit of covering all sides of objects in that area.

EDIT: If I'm going to let the gunner clear a base I make a circle of a fitting diameter and keep that circle until everyone iside it is dead or you need to change directions to shoot someone that hides in a house or whatever. He went side to side which I only do when looking for helos on the horizon. Inconsistent movement of any kind leaves your gunner unable to predict where his bullets will land. The problem with consistent movement is that it makes you a nice target but with enough altitude and speed that ceases to be a problem and you will basically never be hit by SRAAW's from the ground. SRAAW's are only a threat if you let them.

EDIT2: I have no idea how much you need to lead the target as a gunner. My favourite gunner which unfortunately has fallen victim to the WOW-plague had the ability to hit things consistently even at very high speeds. I assume that he managed to learn to disregard the graphic representation of the bullets and just go with gut feeling. My current gunner is less able to hit targets at high speed but is still orders of magnitude better than me. I can't really help you with gunner tips as my experience in that area is limited. As a gunner I'm pretty good in comparison with the public players but I've got nothing on the really skilled ones.

These are some awesome tutorials. Great job. They sure helped me, at least. Plus, you just have a great voice for this kind of thing. Not droll, not annoyingly loud, boistrous, or nerdy, just perfect. And that was a weird sidetrack on my part.

Anyway, yeah, these are pretty great tutorials.

              1. Your altitude when setting the gunner up for 20mm kills in the second video.
              2. Not going the full circle.
              3. The slow speed you're circling with.
              4. Your aversion to barrel rolls.
              5. Your lack of mention on how to avoid hellfires.

              1. At the altitude you were at in the second video when you're showing how to keep a diameter you are a very nice target for bot SRAAW's and armor. This of course varies from situation to situation but a higher altitude is usually better.

              2. If you're not doing a full circle you don't get full coverage of the area. It also gives your gunner a much less consistent aiming point as you jerk around when switching directions. The only times I would consider not going the full circle is if I need to keep a certain area of the map under surveillance for other helicopters. I.e. too many ground pounders to go solely air to air but you know a helo is coming.

              3. If this was for instructional purposes then it's fine but I would consider a higher ammount of speed pretty essential to survival. At that speed you are likely to get hit by skilled SRAAW users.

              4. As you say barrel rolls are useless to shake off another helo but they are IMO under some circumstances preferred to evade a hellfire. If you have the altitude and time to do a fast barrelroll against a skilled gunner then do it. In my experience it messes up the hitboxes so bad even a skilled gunner won't hit more often than one in five or ten (maybe more, it's hard to do this in training sessions witout bias and ingame gunners are usually less able than any of my gunners which increases the bias).

              5. I very rarely die of FFAR's when playing unless you are caught totally unaware from behind. The most significant threat against your helo is a hellfire. I'm not sure what the general public skill level is over in the states but over here the people that usually get the helo know to use and hit with the hellfires.

I understand that this is aimed at persons with a basic skill level but I would consider height and speed when strafing ground targets very important.

EDIT: I should probably mention that I rarely fly with copilots that are clueless. If I can't get a competent gunner I will go fight on the ground. I fly almost exclusively with the gunners of my clan, public or not. So I can't vouch that some of my opinions are aplicable with a less capable gunner.
              1. Give the guy a break. He asked for feed back not criticism.

              2. Yes this is for beginners great observation. No one joins a server and compliments on how you fly. Either way the video gets the point accross. I am sure they would learn the first time he was a bit to low, so what he was just demostrating. He never claimed to be perfect.

              3. Your post could of included all the things you wanted without telling him he did his entire video wrong (according to you, and your evalutions.) If you think you can do better, then lets see you do a tutorial.

Feedback and criticism are the same IMO. It's not like I'm lying or putting him down. The things I pointed out are the concerns I have with his video. If he doesn't agree to their validity he may ignore them.

If you're going to show someone something why not do it right the first time?

I think the videos were great I just commented on two things I consider to be suboptimal and one thing that he omitted.

I wasn't trying to come across as a jackas and I would appreciate if you could give me some pointers on what parts of my text were badly worded according to you.

Are you kidding me? What does altitude and speed have to do with skill level? I'm not talking about any advanced maneuvres.

Pay attention that what he did, is what works for him. If that doesnt work for you and therefore you make it seem as if it doesnt work (as good as your method) at all, youre basically telling him that you can do it better.

Which is how you directly show that your methods are above his.
