As a Commander, I also see a lot of people get tunnel vision. Once in a battle, they tend to stick with that battle and forget about the big picture and not go for the undefended flags. I can holler until I'm blue in the face to go get the undefended flags, but they just keep flocking to the main battle like lemmings to the sea.
A lot of strategy of BF2/SF entails diversionary tactics. If you can force the opposition to move away from their plan so that they split their resources, you are half way there.
On the other hand, the ones that lump their forces together to take flags tend to get leapfrogged.
