its a flase alarm. the trojan picked up is trojan.start, but only symantec/norton is able to pick it up, and not any other AV programs. so we contacted symanetec, and they have confirmed that it was a false alarm. it seems to think the installer is installing a virus. but its only an issue with symantec antivirus programs, so dont worry.

That doesn't matter man. Whether its a false alarm or not, if your virus scanner thinks its a bug, its going to treat it like one.

I just did a scan with AVAST and i got something else from NAW too, how can i take a screen shot of windows?? so i can host it, this is what it says


C:\ Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\naw\levels\Sharki_Peninsula\client.zip\Game Modes\gpm_cq\64


At first it said that it could not be scan because it was a destructible file, or something like that, can't remember too well.

Norton System works is the biggest resource hog ever.

You better have ~4 gigs of RAM if you want to run Norton System works with everything activated and BF2 at the same time without any lag.

Its a POS.

AVG for antivirus

Windows Defender/Spybot S&D/Adaware for spyware


thats all anyone needs. And you dont have to let the spyware programs run in the tray, just scan every couple days.

Agreed. I bet alot of noobs get disappointed when they go and buy that nice and shiny uber desktop at best buy only to have 70% of their PC's potential robbed by bloatware and antivirus programs.

Norton is notorious for false positives, mcafee has had some too, both are resouce hogs, my only dealings with AVG were the free one and i cant say i liked it. I have ended up going with Trend-Micro and never looked back. it has a nice footprint resource wise and much less false positives. It says the files are clean so stop hating on NAW please, it is not infected.

I sent the guys over at NAW an email so they can address this issue. I'm sure they would want to be aware of this problem with Norton.

Something similar to this happened to the Teamspeak program and Norton. It found a false positive trojan in one of their recent updates. They makers of Teamspeak were quick to address this issue.

My advice to all is to stay as far away from Symantec products as possible. They were great back in the day when Peter Norton was in control of them, but when Symantec took over it was all downhill from there...
