That brings us to another point... should the common be armed? And yeah, I've said similar about hunting rabbits with assault rifles, defending the home with ridiculously powered fire-arms... etc etc etc...

Funnily enough- people only see a need to be armed only if others are. Thus, arms races, munitions stockpiles, nuclear-warheads and development programs, etc. Then of course- the general public- we fear each other as long as we have weapons that have the potential to inflict unreasonable injury or deprivation of life with minimal effort- such as that of fire-arms.
(and I bet someone will eventually split hairs about kitchen knives and baseball bats- but you can't necessarily shoot your knife at people, nor your baseball bat- they have a relatively limited range, and a certain and specific kind of damage they do).

Nah, it's just another shotgun and won't help any. The DAO can shoot just as fast, and part of recoil is the load. Shooting at clays isn't the same as trying to stop a trained 200 pound man in body armor that's ****ed off and pumping with adrenaline. They need to change the shotgun load in BF2 to rifled slugs so I can get a bit more range, and for up close and personal, blow a hole clean through a MEC.

Sorry Canada and Australia, though both your governments have started going through the hoops to ban everything under the sun when it comes to arms. We here in the States have an obligation, under our Constitution, to maintain a balance of power between the people, and the government that we elect. You can argue all you want about what you think people can own, but when it comes down to it, it is NOT about having a hunting rifle. It goes beyond just having a Remington for home defense. The reason that we have weapons, it to intimidate those that would try to force unjust laws on its people.

Sorry, but I am assuming that have not taken U.S. History. We have our reasons for owning guns. We do not want to end up like Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, or modern China. We do not want a foreign power infiltrating our homes. We do not want secret arrests in the night and we do not want to live in a police state.

We have a balance of power between branches of government, and we have a balance of power between the people and the government. I know it is cliché, but “those who fail to remember history, are doomed to repeat it.”

If you don’t know why we have guns in the hands of our citizens, then…well...

Most rural places in the US are safer than most urban spots in the UK these days: do you think that maybe, just maybe, there might be a correlation between the fact that most rural American households are armed, while everyone in the UK is depending on a bobby with a whistle?

There's one word to describe why the Commonwealth guys, who used to be, about a hundred years ago, pretty well armed themselves, but gave it all up starting with England after WWI, and Oz-land in the last decade: Jealousy. Those poor guys basically can't have most kinds of guns... heck, now they're banning swords, and soon they'll ban kitchen knives if that's what it takes. And yet they claim their crime rates are low. Tell it to the people in the east end, tell it to those in Manchester, or Birmingham, or Glasgow.

Tell it like it is: you've got soaring crime rates in the UK and Australia, following hard on the heels of the world's most recent and drastic gun-bans. Maybe there's a connection there, eh?
